Dental Assistant/Receptionist

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients warmly, schedule appointments, and manage the front desk with professionalism and friendliness.
  • Verify insurance coverage, perform insurance eligibility checks, and handle insurance claims processing using systems like Epic, Meditech, Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Athenahealth.
  • Collect payments, process medical billing, and perform accurate coding using CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10 codes in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Maintain comprehensive medical records and review documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist dental providers with chairside support, including preparing treatment rooms and managing dental terminology.
  • Manage multi-line phone systems, answer patient inquiries with excellent phone etiquette, and coordinate appointment scheduling efficiently.
  • Support office management tasks such as filing, data entry using Microsoft Office or 10-key typing, and maintaining organized patient files.

Skills

  • Proven experience in dental office settings with strong knowledge of dental terminology and medical coding (ICD-9/10, CPT).
  • Proficiency in EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, eClinicalWorks, or similar platforms like Meditech or Epic.
  • Familiarity with health information management standards including HIPAA compliance and insurance verification procedures.
  • Excellent customer service skills paired with professional phone etiquette and effective communication abilities.
  • Ability to handle medical administrative support tasks such as documentation review, filing, and managing medical records accurately.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and experience with multi-line phone systems.
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus to enhance patient interactions across diverse populations.
  • Previous clinic or dental office experience is highly preferred; familiarity with dental billing and medical coding is essential.
