The Deputy Manager of Production will assist in overseeing all manufacturing operations, with a strong focus on utilizing automated and semi-automated heavy machinery. This role involves managing the entire production process from planning to execution, ensuring efficiency, quality, and safety standards are met. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on knowledge and a leadership background in an automotive manufacturing environment that uses presses, laser cutting, and robotic welding equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate daily manufacturing activities, ensuring production targets are met efficiently and on time.
- Lead and manage the production team, including operators and quality assurance personnel, providing training and conducting performance evaluations.
- Oversee the operation of a variety of heavy machinery, including hydraulic presses, pneumatic presses, power presses, laser cutting machines, and robotic welding machines.
- Ensure that all machinery is operated safely and effectively, and coordinate with the maintenance team for routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs to maximize uptime.
- Implement and enforce stringent quality control procedures to ensure all finished products meet company standards and customer specifications.
- Analyze production data and key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify areas for improvement, reduce waste, and optimize resource utilization.
- Proactively manage and promote a culture of health and safety, ensuring compliance with all company policies and government regulations.
- Collaborate with other departments, such as supply chain and quality assurance, to ensure smooth workflows and resolve any production-related issues.
- Lead process improvement initiatives, implementing lean manufacturing techniques like 5S to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
- Assist in budget preparation, inventory management, and resource allocation to ensure cost-effective operations.
- Prepare and present production reports to senior management, highlighting performance metrics and suggesting solutions for challenges.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in a production or manufacturing environment, with significant experience in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Proven technical expertise with heavy machinery, including hydraulic presses, pneumatic presses, power presses, laser cutting machines, and robotic welding equipment.
- Familiarity with quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001) and lean manufacturing principles.
- Strong leadership, team management, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to use data to drive decision-making and process improvement.
- Knowledge of ERP software and other production management tools is an advantage.
