The Role
Our Large MEP Contracting Client has a new requirement for a number of well experienced Design Engineers to join their team in Dubai. Successful candidates will have a proven background as a Design Engineering specialised in protection on large scale MEP projects in the UAE and beyond having worked for recognised main or MEP contracting companies previously. This role is available for immediate joining and is a direct hire, permanent opportunity, employed by our client. Key Responsibilities: • Involves planning, coordination with interface/support department, setting up the departmental objective, value engineering, Cost control measures and Customer management. • Lead, guide and groom the team to achieve the departmental objective and customer satisfaction. • Develop process to achieve the cycle time reduction and project tracking tasks. Maintain and manage documentation as per the ISO guideline. • Interpret customer specifications, technical requirements, and standards (e.g., IEC, IEEE, UL, ANSI, client-specific) to create detailed design concepts for control and protection panels. • Develop comprehensive schematic diagrams (single-line, three-line, control wiring diagrams), layout drawings, GA (General Arrangement) drawings, bill of materials (BOM), and cable schedules. • Perform component selection and sizing (breakers, relays, meters, PLCs, HMIs, communication devices, power supplies, etc.). • Design panel layouts, wiring, and busbar systems considering thermal, electrical clearance, and safety requirements. • Create detailed manufacturing drawings and documentation for the production workshop. • Utilize CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, ELCAD) proficiently for all design work. • Ensure designs comply with relevant quality, safety, and regulatory standards • Work closely with the Sales/Proposals team during the bidding phase to provide technical insights and preliminary designs. • Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure designs are delivered on time and within budget. • Support the production team during the manufacturing phase, resolving any design-related queries. • Interface with vendors and suppliers for technical clarifications and component selection. • Occasionally participate in customer meetings to discuss technical requirements and design solutions. • Create and maintain standard design templates, symbol libraries, and design guidelines. • Participate in design reviews and implement feedback for optimization. • Stay updated with the latest technologies, components, and industry trends in control and protection systems. • Contribute to process improvement initiatives to enhance design efficiency and quality • Forecast, planning, prepare schedule, follow up and be updated with design scheduling submissions and approvals required to meet customer expectations. • Work closely with project, production, quality and planning department to achieve desired result within the agreed time and cost. • Value addition to sales BOQ by optimizing the usage of components and make. • Understand customer and utility requirements
Requirements
Design Engineer (Protection) Experience: • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation & Control Engineering, or a related field. • 5+ years of proven experience in designing control panels, protection panels, MCCs (Motor Control Centers), or switchgear for the manufacturing sector. • Expert-level knowledge of electrical design principles and power systems. • In-depth understanding of protection relays (overcurrent, differential, distance, etc.) and control schemes. • Strong proficiency in CAD software for electrical design (AutoCAD Electrical and/or EPLAN is mandatory). • Familiarity with PLC systems, SCADA, and communication protocols (Modbus, IEC 61850, DNP3) is a strong advantage. • Standards Knowledge: Working knowledge of key industry standards (IEC 61439, IEC 60204, UL 508A, NEC/NFPA 70). • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities. • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. • Team player with a collaborative mindset.
