Job Summary/Description:

Are you obsessed with digital storytelling? Do you thrive when you're not just breaking news, but breaking barriers on streaming and social platforms? WECT is looking for a Digital Content Producer who’s ready to own the screen on our digital platforms.

Duties/Responsibilities will include (but not be limited to) the following:

  • Assist in WECT’s digital efforts by creating, curating, and showcasing content with strong editorial, journalistic, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Write accurate, concise, AP-style stories for WECT digital, covering a wide range of topics.
  • Produce and edit video and photo content for digital platforms; create video playlists, social clips, and photo galleries to enhance coverage.
  • Collaborate daily with news managers, producers, reporters, photographers, and the weather team to identify content needs and determine the most effective digital delivery.
  • Publish stories and multimedia using the station’s Content Management System; be willing to learn and follow SEO best practices to maximize web traffic and discovery.
  • Lead the creation, planning, and execution of original, locally focused content tailored specifically for WECT’s digital platforms.
  • Manage and optimize content on Facebook, TikTok, and other social media channels to drive engagement, grow audience, and funnel users to WECT’s websites, apps, and newscasts.
  • Manage and monitor WECT social media accounts (Facebook, X/Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and more); post updates, engage with viewers, and respond to messages when appropriate.
  • Use digital and social analytics to inform story selection, presentation, and distribution strategies.
  • Contact public officials, law enforcement, PIOs, and community members to gather and verify information for stories.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • A digital-first mindset: You naturally think in TikToks, Facebook & Instagram reels, web headlines, and streaming content, not just traditional newscasts.
  • Proven digital content chops: Whether it’s writing a snappy post, cutting a vertical video, or creating a quick-hit explainer post, you create engaging, accurate content tailored for digital and streaming audiences.
  • The ability to thrive under pressure: Deadlines don’t scare you; they energize you. You can turn around high-quality digital content at lightning speed when news breaks.
  • Strong news judgment: You know what matters to our community and how to translate it into scroll-stopping headlines, visuals, and formats for maximum impact across platforms.
  • A collaborative spirit: You enjoy working with producers, reporters, photographers, and desk staff to brainstorm, build, and refine content in a fast-evolving digital newsroom.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, digital media, or a related field (or equivalent real-world experience producing digital content).
