The MEP Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing works in fit-out projects. This includes reviewing drawings, specifications, and tender documents; analyzing project requirements; preparing BOQs and cost breakdowns; and coordinating with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive and precise pricing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Tender Review & Analysis
- Study fit-out project drawings, specifications, and scope of works related to MEP services.
- Identify and highlight discrepancies, risks, and value engineering opportunities.
- Estimating & Costing
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for mechanical (HVAC, Firefighting), electrical (power, lighting, ELV), and plumbing works.
- Develop BOQs, rate analyses, and cost breakdowns.
- Apply knowledge of materials, labor, equipment, and subcontracting costs in estimating.
- Supplier & Subcontractor Coordination
- Obtain and evaluate quotations from vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Ensure compliance of quotations with project specifications.
- Build and maintain a database of pricing for materials and services.
- Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare tender submissions, cost comparisons, and estimation reports.
- Support commercial and project teams during pre- and post-tender stages.
- Assist in negotiation and clarification meetings with clients/consultants.
- Technical & Commercial Support
- Provide technical input during value engineering exercises.
- Assist in budget preparation and project cash flow forecasting.
- Support project teams with cost-related advice during execution.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of MEP systems in interior fit-out projects.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction/MEP drawings and specifications.
- Excellent analytical and numerical skills with attention to detail.
- Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); knowledge of estimation software (e.g., Candy, CCS, Plan swift) is an advantage.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree/Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or related discipline).
- 4–8 years of experience in MEP estimation, preferably in fit-out or interior contracting companies.
- Familiarity with local regulations, codes, and authority requirements (Qatar Civil Defense, Kahramaa, etc. if specific to Qatar).
