Position Description

Job Summary:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Fleet Manager to lead the strategic and operational management of a diverse fleet that includes on-road vehicles, off-road machinery, buses, electric vehicles (EVs), EV charging infrastructure, and specialized park equipment. This role is pivotal in ensuring safety, sustainability, and cost-efficiency across all assets while supporting our commitment to environmental stewardship and public service excellence.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • FLEET OPERATIONS:
    • General Operations (Quality Assurance Program): Manage day-to-day operations of the service centers through a comprehensive Quality Assurance Program designed to structure the operations through accountability, data-driven performance, and success defined by outcomes. Monitor vehicle performance using telematics and EV-specific software platforms. Monitor vehicle pool operations and performance. Oversee maintenance and lifecycle planning for sedans, trucks, utility vehicles, and heavy-duty off-road equipment (e.g., loaders, tractors). Schedule preventive maintenance and coordinate repairs to ensure uptime and regulatory compliance. Manage vehicle registration and state inspections.
    • Asset Management: Keep an accurate inventory of all vehicles and equipment entering and leaving service centers. (Record Keeping) Assist the finance with the coordination of vehicle acquisition and end-of-life disposals.
    • Electric Vehicles & Charging Infrastructure: Lead the emerging new operations of EV fleets, including performance monitoring, battery health, and charging logistics. Manage installation, maintenance, and optimization of EV charging stations across facilities. Collaborate with sustainability teams to align EV strategy with carbon reduction goals. Coordinate charging schedules to minimize downtime and maximize efficiency.
    • Compliance & Safety: Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal regulations related to EVs. Train drivers and staff on all vehicle operations, safety protocols, and emergency procedures.
  • LEADERSHIP/PEOPLE:
    • Supervise fleet coordinator, foremen, mechanics, and quality assurance specialist.
    • Ensure all staff are trained in safety, environmental protocols, and equipment operation.
    • Maintain accurate records for audits, inspections, and regulatory compliance.
    • Build relationships. Create partnerships, build trust, share ideas and accomplish work. Develop people. Help others become more effective through strengths, expectations and coaching.

Requirements

Education:
  • Associates Degree from an accredited college or university OR
  • Professional certifications, such the Certified Automotive Fleet Manager (CAFM) or Certified Public Fleet Professional (CPFP) can substitute for a degree.
  • Five (5)+ years of fleet management experience across varied asset types.
  • Experience with municipal fleet operations.
Licensure:
  • ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Certification Commercial Drivers License.
  • Valid Texas State Driver's License.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Leadership: Ability to motivate, guide, and manage a team of drivers, mechanics, and other staff members effectively.
  • Communications: Clear verbal and written communication skills to interact with team members, vendors, and management.
  • Organization & Planning: Excellent organizational abilities to manage schedules, maintenance, and resources efficiently.
  • Decision Making: Ability to analyze data, identify bottlenecks, and implement effective solutions for operational challenges under pressure.
  • Data Analysis: Proficiency in analyzing data, key performance indicators (KPIs), and generating actionable business insights to improve performance.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility to adjust plans and strategies in response to changing circumstances and unforeseen obstacles in fleet operations.
  • Multitasking: The capacity to manage various tasks and responsibilities simultaneously in a dynamic environment. Time Management: Efficiently managing one's own time and schedules to meet deadlines and keep operations running smoothly. Teamwork: The ability to work collaboratively with team members and other divisions to achieve organizational goals.

Preferences

  • EV Infrastructure or Charging Systems Certifications.
  • Proficiency with Fleet Telematics (Geotab, Samsara).

General Information

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:
  • Regular Full-time | This position can be activated in response to emergencies and natural disasters.
  • Monday - Friday | 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
    • Hours may vary based on the business needs and some weekend, evening hours or holidays may be required during special events.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
  • This job operates in a work station in a professional office environment and outdoors.
  • Exposure to various weather conditions and temperature variations may be encountered.
  • This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers and copiers.
  • This position may require some light physical activity.
  • Ability to exert up to 35 pounds of force frequently and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
