Human Resource Business Partner

Position Overview

This role acts as the central coordination point between the News Department and HR. The individual will manage shift planning, recruitment support, attendance operations, data/BI reporting, documentation, and cross-departmental communication. The role requires strong operational discipline, analytical capability, and comfort with introducing AI-driven efficiencies.

Key Responsibilities

1. HR Support

· Coordinate with HR in sourcing, and scheduling, interviews for the News Department.

· Manage candidate communication, documentation collection, onboarding and orientation.

· Track recruitment progress and update HODs and HR on hiring statuses.

· Coordinate with HR to support the performance appraisal cycle, ensuring timely communication and smooth execution of related processes.

· Liaise with HR to facilitate employee training and development activities, including scheduling, tracking participation, and maintaining relevant records.

2. Shift, Attendance & Leave Management

· Prepare staff shift rosters in coordination with Line Managers, ensuring compliance with internal rules (as per company policy).

· Make timely adjustments to schedules based on operational needs, approvals, and attendance trends (as per company policy).

· Support HODs in maintaining smooth attendance and leave operations, including follow-ups and discrepancy resolution.

3. Business Intelligence (BI), Data & Reporting

· Develop and maintain BI dashboards, trackers, and reports for the News Department.

· Work with HODs to interpret numbers, trends, and department performance.

· Provide data-driven insights that help leadership make informed decisions.

4. Meeting Coordination & Follow-Up

· Schedule and organize internal meetings for News Department and cross-functional teams.

· Attend meetings, prepare accurate minutes, and track follow-up actions.

· Maintain ongoing progress logs and ensure timely completion of assigned tasks.

5. Communication & Coordination

· Serve as the single communication bridge between HR and the News Department.

· Ensure smooth workflow, timely information sharing, and escalation management.

· Coordinate with other internal teams for day-to-day operational matters.

6. AI Integration & Digital Efficiency

· Identify opportunities to integrate AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini) to enhance daily operational workflows.

· Develop AI-assisted templates and automated responses for routine communication across departments.

· Stay updated on emerging tools and support smooth adoption across teams.

· Recommend AI-based solutions for workflow automation, attendance tracking, scheduling, and performance reporting.

· Train staff on effective and ethical use of AI tools to improve productivity and reduce manual workload.

· Create simple AI workflows (prompts, SOPs, automation scripts) that streamline news operations and reduce turnaround time.

· Evaluate new AI platforms and plugins that could optimize newsroom tasks

· Monitor the effectiveness of implemented AI solutions and suggest improvements for continuous process enhancement.

· Ensure safe and compliant use of AI tools, maintaining data privacy and accuracy in all automated processes.

7. Documentation & Record Management

· Maintain organized physical and digital records for the department.

· Ensure documentation accuracy, version control, and accessibility for relevant teams.

· Support creation of reports, summaries, briefs, and dashboards for leadership.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Media Studies, HR, IT, or a related field.

· 1–3 years of experience in operations coordination, HR support, newsroom coordination, or similar roles.

· Strong analytical mindset with experience in Excel, BI tools, or dashboard creation.

· Tech-savvy with working knowledge of AI tools, automation solutions, and digital productivity platforms.

· Excellent communication, coordination, and follow-through skills.

· Ability to work in a fast-paced, shift-based, and deadline-driven environment.

· Exposure to news/media operations is a strong advantage.
