About the Role
As the Controller / CFO, you will be responsible for leading all financial functions of the company, including accounting, reporting, forecasting, budgeting, cash flow management, and strategic planning.
This role is both strategic and hands-on—ideal for someone who can operate at a high level while also building and refining the systems that support growth.
You will work directly with ownership to:
- Improve profitability
- Drive financial visibility
- Support operational decision-making
- Build scalable infrastructure for expansion
Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Leadership & Strategy
- Serve as the company’s financial leader and strategic advisor
- Partner with ownership to drive growth, profitability, and long-term planning
- Develop and maintain financial models, forecasts, and scenario planning
- Provide clear, actionable financial insights to leadership
Accounting & Financial Operations
- Oversee all accounting functions:
- General ledger
- Accounts payable/receivable
- Payroll
- Job costing
- Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting
- Maintain clean, audit-ready financials
Budgeting, Forecasting & KPIs
- Build and manage company budgets
- Track and analyze key performance metrics, including:
- Revenue and gross profit by department (HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical)
- Net profit and EBITDA
- Cost of goods sold (COGS)
- Labor efficiency and burden rates
- Implement KPI dashboards that drive accountability across departments
Cash Flow & Financial Controls
- Manage and optimize cash flow, working capital, and reserves
- Establish and enforce strong internal controls and financial processes
- Oversee banking relationships, lines of credit, and financing strategies
Operational & Job Costing Oversight
- Develop and refine job costing systems to ensure accurate pricing and profitability
- Work closely with operations to improve:
- Pricing strategy
- Margin control
- Departmental efficiency
Systems & Process Improvement
- Optimize financial workflows within CRM/accounting systems (ServiceTitan experience preferred)
- Implement scalable systems to support company growth
- Drive automation and efficiency across financial operations
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with all financial regulations, tax requirements, and reporting standards
- Coordinate with external CPA firms and auditors
- Manage insurance, risk mitigation, and financial compliance
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Controller, CFO, or Senior Financial Leader
- Strong experience in:
- Construction, HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, or Home Services industry (HIGHLY preferred)
- Job costing and service-based financial models
- Deep understanding of:
- Financial reporting and analysis
- Budgeting and forecasting
- Cash flow management
- Strong leadership and team development skills
- High level of integrity and accountability
- Advanced proficiency in:
- Accounting software
- Microsoft Excel
- CRM systems (ServiceTitan strongly preferred)
- CPA, MBA, or equivalent experience is a plus
