Roles of an HVAC Engineer
- Design & Planning
- Design heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems for buildings and facilities.
- Prepare load calculations, duct layouts, and equipment sizing.
- Develop technical drawings, specifications, and BOQs for HVAC projects.
- Installation & Supervision
- Oversee installation, testing, and commissioning of HVAC systems.
- Ensure proper placement of ducts, chillers, AHUs, FCUs, and ventilation systems.
- Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, and other engineering disciplines.
- Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Plan and execute preventive and corrective maintenance schedules.
- Diagnose and resolve faults in HVAC equipment and controls.
- Ensure systems operate efficiently, reducing energy consumption and costs.
- Quality & Compliance
- Ensure installations comply with ASHRAE, SMACNA, local codes, and safety standards.
- Monitor performance to meet project specifications and client requirements.
- Conduct inspections and ensure adherence to quality control measures.
- Project Management
- Assist in project scheduling, cost estimation, and resource planning.
- Monitor work progress and prepare technical reports for management.
- Liaise with consultants, clients, and authorities for project approvals.
- Sustainability & Energy Efficiency
- Recommend energy-efficient HVAC solutions and technologies.
- Optimize system design to reduce environmental impact.
- Support green building and sustainability initiatives (e.g., LEED, Estidama).
- Health & Safety
- Implement site safety practices related to HVAC works.
- Ensure safe handling of refrigerants and hazardous materials.
