POSITION:

JUNIOR ESTIMATOR

Job Summary:

To support the Estimation Engineer in preparing accurate cost estimates, BOQs, and tender documentation for projects related to printing, branding, signage, exhibitions, and fit-out works. The Junior Estimator assists in data collection, quantity take-offs, vendor coordination, and documentation while gaining practical exposure to the full estimation lifecycle.

Roles and Responsibilities:

1. Tender & BOQ Support

· Assist in reviewing tender documents, drawings, specifications, and scope of works.

· Support preparation of Bill of Quantities (BOQ) under the guidance of the Estimation Engineer.

· Carry out basic quantity take-offs from drawings and sketches.

· Help identify material types, finishes, and basic manpower requirements.

2. Cost Estimation Assistance

· Assist in preparing cost estimates for materials, labour, and basic fabrication/installation activities.

· Collect cost data from previous projects and internal cost databases.

· Support in preparing draft quotations and cost summaries for review.

· Update cost sheets as per revisions or scope changes.

3. Vendor & Supplier Coordination

· Request and follow up on quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.

· Compare vendor quotations and prepare comparison sheets.

· Maintain records of supplier pricing, lead times, and specifications.

· Assist in updating the approved vendor and price database.

4. Cross-Department Coordination

· Coordinate with Design, Production, Procurement, and Projects teams to gather required inputs.

· Clarify drawings, material specifications, and execution details as guided by seniors.

· Support Estimation Engineer during internal coordination meetings.

5. Tender Documentation & Records

· Assist in compiling tender documents including:

o Cost sheets

o Quotations

o Technical details

o Compliance checklists

· Ensure all documents are properly labelled, stored, and retrievable.

· Maintain tender logs, submission records, and revision histories.

6. Post-Tender & Revision Support

· Assist in revising estimates based on client clarifications or design changes.

· Prepare updated BOQs and cost breakdowns for review.

· Support Sales / Commercial team with basic cost clarifications when required.

7. Cost Monitoring & Learning Support

· Assist in comparing estimated vs actual costs for completed projects.

· Help identify variances and report findings to the Estimation Engineer.

· Maintain a learning log of completed tenders and project outcomes.

8. Market Research & Data Collection

· Collect information on:

o Material prices

o Labour rates

o Subcontract costs

· Assist in updating market price trends under supervision.

· Support identification of cost-effective materials and suppliers.

9. Quality, Accuracy & Compliance

· Ensure accuracy in quantity calculations and data entry.

· Follow company estimation standards, formats, and approval processes.

· Maintain confidentiality of cost data, pricing strategies, and tender information.

10. Miscellaneous & Developmental Duties

· Carry out any additional tasks assigned by the Estimation Engineer or Management.

· Actively participate in on-the-job training and estimation-related learning activities.

· Support urgent estimation tasks during peak tender periods.

Requirements:

· Basic understanding of drawings and specifications

· Numerical and analytical skills

· Proficiency in MS Excel and basic estimation tools

· Good coordination and communication skills

· Willingness to learn and attention to detail

Experience & Qualification

  • Diploma / Bachelor’s in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or related field
  • 2–4 year’s experience in estimation, QS, or commercial support (preferred)
