Library Manager

Job Title: Library Director

Job Summary: The ideal candidate for this role will have a strong community focus and is excited to be the leader of a public library in a small community. This is a 32 hour per week position with occasional Saturday shifts required.

Under the direct supervision of the Farrell Library Board, the library director is responsible for the operations of the library and the development and implementation of its service program, including:

(A) assisting the board with long-range planning and policy development, and managing all library resources, including human resources;

(B) organizing the acquisitions, access, storage, and control of collections;

(C) designing and implementing services and programs for users of all ages; and

(D) overseeing the maintenance and safety of the library building and grounds

(E) actively and strategically plan for the library’s future needs, growth, and improvement in all areas of operation

Education and Experience: The knowledge, skills, and abilities below may be acquired through, but are not limited to, the following combination of education and/or experience.

● MLS preferred with Public Library Clearances (PA State Police, PA Child Abuse, FBI Fingerprinting, Mandated Reporter certification)

● Demonstrated leadership experience in work or volunteer roles

● Ability to use and assist others with basic computer skills and emerging technologies

● Additional highly desired qualities include: effective communication, adaptability, flexibility, and personnel management, public/customer service experience, ability/willingness to work with children in current and future programming

Responsibilities

  • Monthly reporting to the Board of Directors
  • Represent the library at professional meetings and public events
  • Regularly attend meetings and work with leadership to acquire and maintain independent library status
  • Administer and enforce Board policies
  • Budgeting and financial management
  • Apply for grants
  • Maintain relationships with municipal leaders and community partners
  • Complete all required state and local reporting and record keeping
  • Oversee hiring, training, and development of support staff
  • Maintain professional knowledge through ongoing professional development
  • Develop programming for community desires while continuing current programming
  • Manage the library collection including purchasing, cataloging, and culling
  • Promotion of the library on social media and with local media outlets
  • Attend to patrons while in the library

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
