Operations Manager – Mechanical (API 650 Tank Projects)

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager with a Mechanical Engineering background to lead, manage, and execute storage tank projects in compliance with API 650 standards, piping and structural . The role involves managing new tank construction, repair, inspection, and maintenance projects while ensuring quality, safety, and adherence to regulatory requirements.

Key ResponsibilitiesProject Management

• Manage and execute tank construction and repair projects per API 650 and industry standards.
• Prepare project scope of work, cost estimates, schedules, and execution plans.
• Support large-scale capital projects involving new tank installations.
• Coordinate with clients, vendors, and internal teams to ensure smooth project execution.
• Oversee and review financial commitments to ensure accurate spending forecasts and budget compliance.

Planning & Execution

• Develop and monitor project schedules using MS Project or Primavera.
• Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports for management and stakeholders.
• Ensure proper documentation of tank inspections, repairs, and regulatory compliance.
• Work closely with Operations, EHS, and Commercial teams for project planning and safety management.

Technical & Safety Oversight

• Provide technical support during tank inspection reviews to maintain consistent repair practices.
• Ensure compliance with industry policies, API 650 standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain high standards of personal and workplace safety.

Budgeting & Reporting

• Assist in preparing the annual sustaining capital budget for tank maintenance projects.
• Monitor and report on project performance to ensure timelines and costs are controlled.

Team & Stakeholder Coordination

• Guide construction teams by providing technical direction and project implementation strategies.
• Ensure effective client communication and manage expectations on deliverables.
• Oversee multiple projects simultaneously and manage priorities effectively.

Qualifications & Skills

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
• 10+ years of experience in storage tank fabrication, erection (jacking/conventional), piping, and structural works.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects efficiently.
• Strong knowledge of API 650 standards and tank construction practices.
• Proficiency in MS Project, Primavera, and other project management tools (advantage).
• Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
• Presentable, professional, and able to engage effectively with clients and stakeholders.

Work Location: Sharjah, UAE
Candidates must be able to reliably commute or be willing to relocate before starting.
