Order Taker Duties and Responsibilities
- Greet customers promptly and courteously, either in person, by phone, or online
- Accurately take customer orders and enter them into the point-of-sale (POS) system
- Answer customer questions about menu items, products, prices, and promotions
- Make recommendations and upsell or cross-sell items when appropriate
- Verify order details (items, quantities, special requests) to ensure accuracy
- Communicate special instructions or modifications to kitchen or production staff
- Process payments using cash, credit/debit cards, or digital payment systems
- Handle customer complaints or concerns in a professional and timely manner
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, including counters and order stations
- Follow company policies, food safety standards, and cash-handling procedures
- Coordinate with team members to ensure timely order preparation and delivery
- Monitor order status and inform customers of wait times or delays
- Balance cash drawer and complete basic transaction reports when required
- Assist with inventory checks and restocking of supplies as needed
