Job Description – Payroll Accountant
1. Primary Purpose
The Payroll Accountant is responsible for managing the full payroll process of the organization. This role ensures accurate and timely payroll processing, compliance with payroll regulations and tax laws, and proper maintenance of payroll records. The Payroll Accountant plays a key role in ensuring employees are paid correctly and on time.
2. Responsibilities Payroll Processing
- Collect and review employee timesheets or attendance records.
- Calculate and process employee wages, salaries, bonuses, commissions, and other compensation.
- Verify payroll data accuracy, including deductions, allowances, and employee status changes.
- Prepare and distribute paychecks or arrange direct deposits.
- Address and resolve payroll-related inquiries from employees.
Payroll Reconciliation & Reporting
- Reconcile payroll accounts and resolve discrepancies.
- Prepare payroll reports (earnings statements, tax reports, labor cost analysis).
- Generate periodic and ad-hoc payroll reports for management and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with Finance to ensure proper recording of payroll expenses and accruals.
Employee Recordkeeping
- Maintain accurate and confidential payroll records, including contracts and related documents.
- Ensure compliance with data protection and privacy regulations.
- Support onboarding and offboarding processes related to payroll.
Payroll Administration
- Maintain accurate payroll data and ensure data integrity.
- Update employee information (personal details, banking details, etc.).
- Ensure compliance with UAE payroll laws and WPS requirements.
- Prepare and submit payroll tax filings and reports.
- Stay updated on payroll regulations and labor laws.
Benefits Administration
- Administer employee benefits programs (health insurance, retirement plans, etc.).
- Work with HR and providers for accurate and timely benefits enrollment and deductions.
- Coordinate with departments to ensure proper reporting of benefits deductions in payroll.
Other Duties
- Take a lead role in Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) by ensuring safe systems and conditions of work.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
3. Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field (required).
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in payroll/accounting (UAE experience is preferred).
Skills & Competencies
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, Formulas).
- Strong math skills with ability to identify numerical errors.
- Good time management and organizational abilities.
