Payroll Specialist

Responsibilities

  • Process payroll accurately using systems such as Workday, ADP, Paychex, UltiPro, or Kronos, ensuring all employee data is current and correct
  • Reconcile payroll accounts through general ledger accounting practices, including journal entries, debits & credits, and account reconciliation
  • Maintain detailed records of payroll transactions, benefits administration, and tax filings to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
  • Manage data entry tasks related to employee hours, wages, deductions, and benefits within various payroll software platforms
  • Collaborate with HR and finance teams to coordinate benefits administration and resolve payroll discrepancies promptly
  • Prepare reports on payroll expenses, tax liabilities, and other financial data for internal review and external audits
  • Support accounts payable and receivable processes related to payroll disbursements and vendor payments

Experience

  • Proven experience working with payroll management systems such as Workday, ADP, Paychex, Kronos or UltiPro
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles including double entry bookkeeping, general ledger reconciliation, and financial concepts
  • Familiarity with accounting software like QuickBooks or other financial software tools used in corporate or non-profit settings
  • Knowledge of tax regulations related to payroll processing and benefits administration
  • Demonstrated ability in data entry accuracy with proficiency in 10 key typing skills
  • Experience handling accounts payable/receivable processes within a governmental or corporate environment
  • Excellent analysis skills for reviewing financial data and resolving discrepancies efficiently
  • Background in human resources functions such as benefits administration or HRIS systems like Ceridian or PeopleSoft is a plus
