Job Purpose:
To lead and manage the procurement function for raw materials, components, and services required in transformer manufacturing, ensuring cost-effectiveness, quality, and timely availability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Procurement:
- Develop and implement sourcing strategies for critical transformer materials like CRGO, copper, transformer oil, bushings, insulators, radiators, tanks, core materials, and hardware.
- Identify and onboard reliable vendors/suppliers with strong quality and compliance track record.
- Vendor Management:
- Negotiate contracts, payment terms, and delivery schedules with suppliers.
- Evaluate vendor performance based on quality, cost, and delivery.
- Maintain long-term relationships with strategic suppliers.
- Cost & Budget Control:
- Ensure cost optimization through effective negotiations and alternate sourcing.
- Monitor purchase budgets and contribute to cost-saving initiatives.
- Operational Procurement:
- Release purchase orders, track delivery timelines, and coordinate with production & stores for material requirements.
- Ensure timely availability of raw materials and bought-out items to avoid production delays.
- Compliance & Documentation:
- Ensure compliance with company policies, statutory regulations, and quality standards (ISO, BIS, etc.).
- Maintain accurate procurement records, purchase order files, and vendor documents.
- Cross-functional Coordination:
- Collaborate with Design, Production, Quality, and Finance teams for smooth execution of projects.
- Support new product development (NPD) by sourcing new components/materials.
- Market Intelligence:
- Track market trends, raw material price fluctuations, and competitor sourcing strategies.
- Explore opportunities for imports/exports and global sourcing.
Key Skills & Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of transformer industry materials and components.
- Expertise in strategic sourcing, vendor negotiations, and cost reduction.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP / Oracle / Tally or similar).
- Excellent communication, analytical, and leadership skills.
- Strong understanding of commercial terms, contracts, and logistics.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering or Supply Chain Management (preferred).
- MBA/PGDM in Supply Chain or Materials Management is an advantage.
- 2-4 years of experience in procurement within the transformer or heavy electrical equipment industry.
