Quantity Surveyor (Electrical)

Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and commercially-minded Quantity Surveyor to join our electrical engineering team. You will be responsible for managing all costs relating to our electrical projects—from initial calculations to final accounts. Your goal will be to minimize project costs and enhance value for money while still achieving the required standards and quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Estimation & Tendering: Prepare accurate BOQs (Bills of Quantities) based on electrical drawings (SLDs, Layouts, Schematics). Proficiency in NRM2 or SMM7 to produce accurate Bills of Quantities (BoQ) would be a plus.
  • Cost Analysis: Perform detailed material take-offs for cables, switchgear, lighting fixtures, and earthing systems.
  • Contract Management: Review and manage tender documents, contracts, and sub-contractor agreements. Deep knowledge of standard forms of contract like JCT or NEC4.
  • Commercial Management: Managing sub-contractor accounts and certifying payments.
  • Site Inspections: Visit project sites across Karachi to verify work progress and validate contractor invoices.
  • Variation Orders: Identify, price, and negotiate variations (changes in scope) with clients and consultants.
  • Procurement Support: Coordinate with the procurement department to ensure electrical components are sourced within budget.
  • Final Accounts: Prepare and close out final accounts, ensuring all claims are settled and payments are recovered.
  • Software Proficiency: Hands-on experience with BIM (Building Information Modelling), CostX, or Bluebeam.

Technical Skills & Qualifications

  • Education: DAE (Electrical) or B.E. in Electrical Engineering. A certification in Quantity Surveying is a significant plus.
  • Software Proficiency: Expert level in MS Excel and AutoCAD. Experience with Bluebeam or PlanSwift is preferred.
  • Market Knowledge: Strong understanding of current market rates for electrical materials in Pakistan (e.g., copper prices, switchgear brands).
  • Standard Forms: Familiarity with FIDIC or local PEC (Pakistan Engineering Council) contract standards.

  • Integrity: High ethical standards when dealing with vendors and contractors.
  • Communication: Fluent in Urdu and English; able to negotiate firmly but professionally with subcontractors.
  • Resilience: Ability to handle the fast-paced nature of the Karachi construction industry and meet tight tender deadlines.
  • Self-motivated with a results-driven approach
  • Fast learner and passion for electrical engineering
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office
  • Proficiency in English
