Job Title: RCM Document Routing Specialist

Job Summary
The RCM Document Routing Specialist is responsible for accurately receiving, indexing, and routing incoming documents within the Revenue Cycle Management workflow. This role ensures that medical, insurance, and financial documents are correctly classified and delivered to the appropriate teams in a timely manner to support efficient billing, coding, and reimbursement processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and review incoming documents (faxes, emails, EDI files, scanned records, portal uploads).
- Accurately index and route documents to the correct work queues, departments, or patient accounts.
- Identify document types such as referrals, authorizations, insurance cards, EOBs, denials, medical records, and correspondence.
- Ensure documents are attached to the correct patient record in the EHR or document management system.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA and organizational privacy policies at all times.
- Monitor document queues to ensure service-level agreements (SLAs) are met.
- Flag incomplete, duplicate, or unclear documentation and escalate as appropriate.
- Collaborate with billing, coding, eligibility, and AR teams to resolve routing issues.
- Maintain high accuracy and productivity standards in a fast-paced environment.
- Participate in quality audits and process improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree preferred.
- 1+ year experience in healthcare Revenue Cycle Management, medical records, or document management.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and RCM workflows.
- Experience working with EHR systems and document imaging/routing tools.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to meet productivity and accuracy benchmarks.
- Basic computer skills and proficiency with MS Office or similar tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with high-volume document processing or centralized business office (CBO).
- Knowledge of insurance processes, claims, and billing documentation.
- Prior experience in a remote or virtual work environment.
