Regional Payroll Manager (Union Payroll Exp REQUIRED)

What You’ll Own

You’ll oversee payroll operations across multiple business units and states, supporting a diverse workforce that includes union and non-union employees, field crews, office staff, and executives.

This role is equal parts:

  • Strategist
  • Operator
  • Compliance Guardian
  • Team Leader

What You’ll Do - Lead Multi-State Payroll Operations

  • Manage end-to-end payroll across assigned business units
  • Direct weekly payroll execution (including office and executive payroll)
  • Serve as backup when needed — leaders lead from the front

Develop & Elevate the Payroll Team

  • Train, mentor, and develop payroll staff
  • Manage workload distribution
  • Set performance expectations and accountability standards

Drive Accuracy & Compliance

  • Research and resolve payroll exceptions
  • Reconcile payroll between systems (UKG + ERP)
  • Oversee tax filings and resolve notices
  • Complete state registrations and POAs
  • Manage internal and external payroll audits

Partner Across the Organization

  • Collaborate with HR on onboarding, offboarding, leave, and compensation changes
  • Work with Accounting & Finance on reconciliations, accruals, journal entries, and month-end
  • Interface with 401(k) vendor for weekly reconciliation and annual compliance testing

Report & Improve

  • Monitor payroll metrics and provide leadership reporting
  • Identify automation and process improvement opportunities
  • Develop documentation, SOPs, and internal controls
  • Support system upgrades, implementations, mergers, and expansions

What You Bring (Required)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or equivalent (required)
  • 5+ years payroll experience
  • 3+ years managing payroll for a multi-state organization
  • Union Payroll experience
  • Strong leadership and supervisory experience
  • Deep knowledge of payroll tax regulations and wage & hour compliance

Preferred

  • Payroll certification
  • UKG Pro & Foundations experience
  • ERP experience (QuickBooks a plus)
  • Advanced Excel (formulas, pivot tables, data analysis)
