Safety Officer

The Safety Officer at HM Garage is responsible for developing, implementing, and enforcing comprehensive health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies to ensure a secure, compliant, and healthy workplace for all employees, visitors, and fleet assets within the 2,000 SQM facility. This role is critical given the presence of specialized risks, including vehicle repair, a paint booth, and chemical/battery storage.

🛠 What You’ll Get Your Hands On

• Core Responsibilities
• Policy & Compliance
• Develop and Maintain HSE Programs: Create, update, and manage the garage’s safety protocols, including the Hazard Communication Program, Emergency Response Plan, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and Fire Prevention Plan.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all operations, equipment, and facility designs (including the Painting Booth and Charging Zones) comply with local Qatari government regulations, fire codes, and environmental standards.
• Permit Management: Oversee the safe issuance of Permits to Work (PTW) for all high-risk activities, such as welding, hot work, confined space entry, and roof access.
• Inspection & Risk Management
• Conduct Daily Audits: Perform regular, comprehensive inspections of the Repairing Area, Storage areas (especially for bike batteries and chemicals), staff welfare facilities, and tools to identify and mitigate hazards immediately.
• Equipment Safety: Manage the safety certification and inspection schedule for all vehicle lifts, jacks, pressure vessels, and specialized tools used by the 30 mechanics.
• Chemical Management: Oversee the safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials (paints, solvents, oils) in compliance with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
• Training & Culture
• Deliver Training: Organize and conduct mandatory, recurring safety training sessions for all staff (mechanics, helpers, storekeepers, security, and administration) on topics relevant to the garage environment.
• Promote Safety Culture: Champion a proactive safety culture by encouraging the reporting of near-misses and unsafe conditions without fear of reprisal.
• Manage Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Determine required PPE for specific tasks (e.g., respirators for the Painting Booth, specialized gloves for battery handling) and ensure proper usage, maintenance, and replacement.
• Accident & Emergency Response
• Incident Investigation: Lead the investigation of all accidents, injuries, and significant near-misses to determine root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Emergency Preparedness: Manage and document regular emergency drills (fire, medical, chemical spill), focusing on improving staff response time and efficiency.
• First Aid: Oversee the maintenance and proper staffing of the garage's First Aid Station.
• Reporting & Administration
• KPI Tracking: Regularly report on safety Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including Lost Time Injury Rate (LTIR), near-miss frequency, and training compliance, to the Garage Foreman and Management.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate, organized records of all safety training, equipment certifications, incident reports, audit findings, and corrective actions.
  
  

🧙‍♂️ The Magic You Bring

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
• Certification: Nationally or internationally recognized safety certification (e.g., NEBOSH International General Certificate, OSHA certification, or equivalent).
• Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of HSE experience in a heavy industrial, manufacturing, or automotive workshop/fleet management environment.
• Skills: Proven ability to conduct root cause analysis, strong written and verbal communication skills (Arabic and/or English preferred), and familiarity with safety standards related to vehicle lifts, flammable materials, and electrical charging infrastructure.
