Sales Manager Job Description Summary

The Sales Manager is responsible for leading the company's sales team to meet and exceed revenue targets. This role involves developing and executing strategic sales plans, managing and motivating the sales team, analyzing sales data, and building strong relationships with key clients.

Key Responsibilities

1. Sales Strategy & Planning

  • Develop and Implement comprehensive sales strategies, plans, and forecasts to achieve company sales goals and profitability objectives.
  • Set realistic, yet challenging, sales targets and quotas for the team and individual representatives.
  • Identify emerging markets, shifts, and new business opportunities, and stay current on competitor activities.
  • Manage the sales budget and monitor expenses.

2. Team Leadership & Management

  • Lead, mentor, coach, and motivate the sales team to maximize performance and productivity.
  • Recruit, hire, and onboard new sales representatives.
  • Provide ongoing training and professional development to address knowledge gaps and enhance skills.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, one-on-ones, and sales meetings to track progress against goals.

3. Sales Operations & Reporting

  • Monitor and analyze sales metrics, data, and pipeline activity to identify trends, areas for improvement, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Prepare and present accurate sales, revenue, and expense reports and realistic forecasts to the management team.
  • Ensure the sales team is effectively utilizing CRM software (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot) and adhering to sales processes.

4. Customer Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong, long-lasting relationships with key customers and partners.
  • Negotiate and close major deals and contracts.
  • Oversee the handling of escalated customer issues or complaints to ensure high customer satisfaction and loyalty.

Required Skills & Qualifications

ExperienceTypically 3-5+ years of experience in sales, with a minimum of 1-3 years in a sales leadership/management role.

EducationBachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field (often preferred or required).
