</div><p>The Legal Division's principal responsibility is to recommend to the court the disposition of substantive and procedural motions, appeals decided without oral argument, and emergency matters.<br>

The court attorney will conduct legal research, prepare legal memoranda, draft proposed orders, respond to judges' inquiries, and make oral presentations.<br>
<br>
The court attorney will meet with three-judge panels in formal conferences about twice a month. At conference, the court attorney and staff attorneys answer any questions about their cases, and the panel discusses and votes on the attorneys' recommendations.<br>
<br>
The court attorney and staff attorneys may also present their recommendations orally to the judges when handling time-sensitive emergency motions.</p></div>

<p>The caseload of the D.C. Circuit involves virtually every area of federal law and is unique in the number of cases filed against the executive branch. Because the court attorney must be able to advise the judges on difficult, varied, and important legal issues, the court is highly selective in its hiring. The court is looking for individuals who have demonstrated the ability to research and analyze complex legal issues in depth and to express themselves clearly, both orally and in writing.<br>

To qualify for the CL 30 level, you must be a member of the bar of a state or the District of Columbia and have at least three years of specialized experience after graduation from law school.<br>

The following may be credited as one year of specialized experience:

<li>Graduation in the upper third of class from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association or the Association of American Law Schools;</li>
<li>Membership on the editorial board of a law review of such a school;</li>
<li>Graduation from a law school on the approved list of the American Bar Association or that of the Association of American Law Schools with an advanced degree (LLM or equivalent); or</li>
<li>Demonstrated proficiency in legal studies, which, in the opinion of the appointing official, is the equivalent of the above.</li></ul><br>

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia is unique in the size and the scope of its work. It serves as both the local and the federal prosecutor for the nation's capital. On the local side, AUSAs assigned to the Superior Court Division prosecute cases in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia ranging from misdemeanors to homicides, and appeals of those convictions are argued in the District of Columbia Court of Appeals (DCCA). On the federal side, AUSAs assigned to the Criminal Division prosecute federal crimes in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, and appeals of those convictions are argued in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. AUSAs assigned to the Appellate Division argue the direct appeals of all criminal convictions in both the local and federal Courts of Appeal. AUSAs in the Special Proceedings Division handle post-trial litigation involving habeas claims, record sealing, and other requests for extraordinary relief in the trial courts. The Civil Division further defends the United States in civil suits brought in the District of Columbia.

The United States Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia is accepting applications for attorneys to serve as Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) in the Office's Appellate Division. The position involves significant legal writing responsibilities, including preparation of internal memoranda, briefs for trial courts and the courts of appeals, and other court filings. Appellate AUSAs will participate in moot courts and handle oral arguments before the appellate courts. Appellate AUSAs may also assist in trial-level litigation in cases of unusual complexity or importance.

<p>The Law Office of Alfredo Vasquez seeks a DC-barred Associate Attorney to join our growing real estate and civil litigation firm. Founded in 2020, the Law Office of Alfredo Vasquez serves clients in practice areas including landlord-tenant, partition of property, title disputes and other real estate matters. The firm also handles business disputes, commercial leasing and contracts. This hands-on opportunity provides an up-close view of how a small law firm is run and is ideal for self-starters who are new to or newly returning to the workforce.</p><p>The Associate Attorney will be responsible for client cases from start to finish, with a particular focus on DC landlord-tenant court and an opportunity to expand into other practice areas. <div><div><p>The Office of Immigration Litigation (OIL) litigates immigration cases on behalf of the United States in the federal district courts and courts of appeals. District Court litigation involves a wide range of immigration, nationality, civil&#8209;immigration detention, and related issues, including programmatic and class action challenges to visa determinations and agency policies, as well as affirmative denaturalization actions. Appellate Court litigation addresses whether an individual is removable from the United States and often presents complex questions of constitutional law, statutory interpretation, and criminal law. OIL attorneys draft briefs and dispositive motions, appear for oral argument and trials, and coordinate with other components of the executive branch to promote the uniform application of the immigration laws.</p></div>
</div></div><div><div><b>Job Description</b></div>
<div><div><p>Law student volunteers in the Office of Immigration Litigation (OIL) will work closely with attorney&#8209;mentors on assignments that mirror the Office&rsquo;s district court and appellate practice. Responsibilities may include:</p><ul><p>
Conducting legal research and drafting memoranda on immigration, nationality, detention, and related issues.</p><p>
Drafting briefs and other pleadings for filing in federal courts, including dispositive motions and appellate submissions.</p><p>
Assisting with case preparation and litigation strategy, including reviewing records and supporting trial and oral argument preparation.</p><p>
Preparing and delivering a moot oral argument before a panel of experienced OIL attorneys.</p><p>
Attending OIL trainings, Division&#8209;wide programs, tours, and networking events, as schedules permit.</p><p>
Observing &ldquo;first cuts&rdquo; meetings where OIL leadership considers whether to seek further review in cases decided adversely to the government.</p></ul><p>
The Summer 2026 internship program is expected to begin during the week of June 1.</p></div>

<div><div><p><b>Eligibility Requirements</b></p><ul><p>
U.S. citizenship is required.</p><p>
Must have completed at least one year of law school by the start date of the internship.</p><p>
Must be a current law student enrolled at least half&#8209;time at an accredited U.S. law school.</p><p>
Must have a cumulative law school GPA of 3.0 or higher.</p><p>
Must be able to successfully complete a background check and any required security forms.</p><p>
Must be able to commit to a full&#8209;time, in&#8209;person schedule of 40 hours per week for at least 10 weeks during Summer 2026.</p></ul><p>
Current 3Ls and law school graduates are otherwise ineligible for this unpaid volunteer internship, except LL.M. students who are enrolled at least half&#8209;time and are not practicing law, consistent with Department policy.</p><p><b>

The</b> <b>Complex Litigation Division</b> <b>at the Washington State Attorney General&rsquo;s Office </b><b>has an opportunity for an experienced attorney interested in litigating significant issues that face our State and the nation. This position will be located in downtown Seattle or Olympia depending on the needs and interests of the person hired to fill this role.</b></p></div><p></p>
<div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Duties</b></h2></div>
<p></p><div><div>Attorneys in the Complex Litigation Division work on some of the Office&rsquo;s most challenging and high-profile cases. The Division has many ongoing cases challenging overreach by the federal government, including recent lawsuit on HUD homelessness grants, public benefits programs, student mental health grants, gender-affirming care, FEMA disaster mitigation funding, the dismantling of HHS, teen reproductive health education, and public health grants. The Division has a lengthy history of challenging past federal government action including leading multistate litigation to protect and increase access to medication abortion. The Division will remain at the forefront of the fight to protect Washingtonians&rsquo; reproductive rights.</div><div></div><div><br>
The Division also litigates cases such as Washington&rsquo;s lawsuits related to the opioid epidemic; challenges to the constitutionality of the State&rsquo;s law restricting gun magazine capacity size and the law banning the sale of assault weapons; a campaign finance enforcement action; challenges to the State&rsquo;s forest management and conservation plans; and ongoing arbitrations related to the Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement.</div><div></div><div><b><br>
Duties of attorneys in the Complex Litigation Division include directing and assisting in investigations; drafting pleadings, motions, and memoranda from initial filing through post-judgment proceedings; depositions and all other aspects of discovery; presenting oral argument; and participating in trial and post-trial proceedings, including appeals, in state and/or federal court. The Division collaborates with many of the Office&rsquo;s divisions, including the Solicitor General&rsquo;s Office, on the cases it litigates. Our attorneys may be asked to represent the Office in public settings on matters that may be of a sensitive nature or that may carry elevated media interest.</b></div></div><p></p>
