About the Role
As Agentic Platform Engineer, you will be responsible for building and operating the enterprise agentic engineering platform that enables AI agents to safely plan, reason, use tools and execute work across Travel Counsellors' technology estate. 
 
This is an agentic engineering role with strong Platform foundations. Your primary focus will be the design, development and production operation of autonomous and semi-autonomous agents for software delivery, platform operations, service reliability, security and engineering productivity. You will create reusable agent capabilities, orchestration patterns, tool integrations, memory and retrieval services, evaluation frameworks and governance controls that allow teams to adopt agentic automation safely at scale. 
 
You will treat agents as production software: versioned, tested, observable, secure, cost-controlled and accountable. Working across Platform Engineering, Architecture, Security, Data and product teams, you will turn high-value operational workflows into reliable agentic products with clear human oversight, measurable outcomes and safe rollback. 
Principal Accountabilities<ul><li>
Design, build and operate the enterprise agentic platform, including orchestration, runtime services, model routing, memory, identity and policy enforcement.</li><li>
Develop reusable agent frameworks, SDKs and patterns that enable engineering teams to build secure, scalable AI agents consistently.</li><li>
Engineer autonomous and human-in-the-loop agent workflows that plan, execute, validate and escalate tasks within defined risk and governance controls.</li><li>
Integrate agents securely with enterprise platforms, cloud services, APIs and knowledge sources using modern integration standards and Model Context Protocol (MCP).</li><li>
Build production-grade agent services using Python, cloud-native architectures, event-driven design, automation and Infrastructure as Code.</li><li>
Implement robust evaluation, observability and continuous improvement capabilities, including testing, tracing, telemetry and performance optimisation.</li><li>
Embed security, governance and responsible AI principles through least-privilege access, policy enforcement, auditability and data protection.</li><li>
Own the reliability and operational excellence of the agentic platform, including CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, monitoring, incident response and production support.</li><li>
Collaborate with Engineering, Security, Architecture, Data and Risk teams to define standards, document best practices and support adoption of the platform.</li></ul> 
Required Experience<ul><li>
Hands-on experience designing and operating production AI-agent or LLM-powered systems, not only experimenting with chat interfaces or prompt prototypes.</li><li>
Strong software engineering capability in Python, including API design, automated testing, asynchronous processing, dependency management and production debugging.</li><li>
Practical experience with agent orchestration, structured tool calling, workflow state, retrieval-augmented generation and human-in-the-loop patterns.</li><li>
Experience building secure integrations with enterprise APIs, repositories, cloud services, CI/CD, observability or ITSM platforms.</li><li>
Experience creating evaluation frameworks for agent quality, task completion, safety, reliability, latency and cost.</li><li>
Strong understanding of agent security, including workload identity, least privilege, secrets management, sandboxing, approvals and audit trails.</li><li>
Experience observing and operating LLM or agent workloads in production, including tracing, prompt/model/tool versioning, regression monitoring and incident response.</li><li>
Strong AWS and cloud-native engineering experience, including Infrastructure as Code, containers or serverless services, networking, IAM and monitoring.</li><li>
Experience with CI/CD and production ownership, with willingness and ability to participate in an on-call rota.</li><li>

About the role</h1>
This role is suited to a senior data migration and Professional Services leader who can combine technical authority in complex ETL, multi-source data alignment and migration assurance with the operational, commercial and people leadership needed to scale a high-performing delivery function.
The Head of Data Services will lead and mature the L3P Data Services function through a period of significant operational and market change. The role will be central to Idoxs response to Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) over the next 35 years, establishing the strategy, standards, tooling and repeatable delivery models needed for complex data alignment, migration and transformation programmes.
This is a highly visible, UK home-based leadership opportunity, requiring someone who can bring discipline, consistency and commercial focus to day-to-day operations while driving controlled innovation through automation, AI-assisted delivery, modern data engineering practices and improved tooling.
As a member of the L3P Professional Services leadership team, the postholder will lead, develop and scale a Data Services function responsible for complex ETL, migration, transformation, reconciliation and data alignment projects.  You&rsquo;ll be building production-grade ML systems in Python, deploying them into cloud environments, working with modern DevOps/MLOps tooling and dealing directly with customers.
 
 
 
 
 
 You don&rsquo;t necessarily need &ldquo;MLOps Engineer&rdquo; written on your current job title.
 
 
 
 
 
 You could come from ML Engineering, DevOps, Data Engineering or a similar background, provided you&rsquo;ve actually built and deployed ML software in production.

 Still technical &amp; writing code hands on.

This new hub reinforces Manchester’s position as a key technology centre for Bauer Media Audio, alongside its existing locations. Our team is built around squads, each aligned to a distinct value stream, with a layer of cross-squad roles – people whose expertise and support spans the whole team. Each squad will be led by a Product Manager and Lead Engineer, working in partnership and jointly accountable for their squad's work and outcomes. Squads are intentionally small – typically around five to six engineers – keeping them focused, collaborative, and able to move quickly. The Difference You Will Make
 As Lead Engineer, you will combine hands-on technical contribution with the day-to-day leadership and people management of a software engineering squad within our new engineering team. You will work alongside your team, writing and reviewing code, guiding technical decisions, maintaining engineering standards, supporting the growth of individual engineers, and acting as the connective tissue between your squad and the broader engineering organisation. You'll work closely with the Director of Engineering and leaders from adjacent disciplines to ensure your team’s work aligns with our technical direction and product priorities.
 
You'll lead with empathy and clarity to foster a culture of continuous improvement, shared ownership, and engineering excellence within your squad. Contribute technically
 
Write and review code as an active contributor to your squad’s delivery – guiding by example on quality, maintainability, and best practice.
 
Guide architectural decisions and technical direction within your squad and contribute to broader engineering discussions.
 
Drive delivery and planning
 
Plan and manage squad capacity across projects – forecast hiring needs and allocating resources effectively to meet delivery commitments.
 
Participate in roadmap, refinement, and sprint planning sessions – working closely with Product colleagues and adjacent discipline leads, providing technical input, ensuring clear scoping, and surfacing dependencies and risks early.
 
Uphold engineering standards
 
Define and sustain coding standards and review processes – conducting code reviews focused on quality, maintainability, and consistency.
 
Track and manage technical debt within your squad – balancing debt reduction with feature delivery and escalating systemic issues where needed.
 
Ensure operational excellence
 
Participate in the in-hours and out-of-hours incident management rotas, providing hands-on technical support and clear, calm communication during high-pressure situations.
 
Advocate for the ‘you build it, you run it’ ethos – ensuring your squad is equipped to deploy, operate, and support the systems they build as part of a DevOps culture where second line out of hours support is the expectation.
 
What We're Looking For
 
Experience of some but not necessarily all of the following: 
Technical capability
 
Solid hands-on software engineering experience, with sufficient depth across frontend and backend development to guide technical decisions, review code meaningfully, and set the standard for your squad.
 
Able to lead a team across our core stack — a Java Spring Boot, AWS, Kubernetes and Kafka back end, with a TypeScript/React front end — deep expertise in some areas, with the breadth to engage credibly across the rest.
 
A strong grasp of software architecture principles — domain-driven design, service boundaries, and event-driven communication (e.g. via Kafka) — and the ability to guide your squad's technical direction within a broader engineering strategy.
 
Modern engineering practices: CI/CD, containerisation, version control workflows, code review, testing strategies, and observability.
 
Security best practices embedded across the development lifecycle, with the ability to guide your squad to do the same.
 
An awareness of AI trends within engineering and an interest in AI-assisted development tooling – understanding how these tools can improve your squad's productivity and code quality.
 
Leadership and people skills
 
Leading or mentoring with a servant-leadership mindset and a genuine focus on the growth and wellbeing of your colleagues.
 
Communicating with a range of people and organisational roles, managing stakeholder expectations, representing your team’s needs, and fostering collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.
 
Acting as an escalation point for your team, supporting them through complex or time-sensitive situations.

Industry and delivery experience
 
Leading a software engineering team or squad in a product-led, multidisciplinary organisation, with a track record of consistent, quality delivery.
 
Agile software delivery practices and methodologies – with the experience to implement the right approach for your squad's context; SCRUM experience is a plus.
 
Adapting to evolving business priorities, communicating calmly and clearly when under pressure.
 
Media, audio streaming, or consumer platform experience is a plus.
 
Working Pattern and Location
 This is a permanent, hybrid, full-time role with an in-office presence twice a week in our Manchester hub. Like all roles in the team, this one includes participation in incident management rotas – we schedule these collaboratively, taking into account everyone's responsibilities and commitments outside of work.
