The Medical Assistant supports the delivery of urological services, performs work as required and functions as an effective member of the interdisciplinary team. The Medical Assistant is tasked to perform routine administrative and clinical tasks to keep the medical offices running smoothly. This position collaborates/work with staff within their practice or other professional disciplines within the affiliated medical groups as needed to achieve effective and efficient patient care delivery and the desired patient outcomes.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION/COMPETENCIES
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:<ul><li>
The Medical Assistant will perform various administrative and clinical duties under the direction of their assigned direct supervisor.</li><li>
The Medical Assistant will consistently confer with physicians, nursing, and other staff members to coordinate and schedule appointments of patients.</li><li>

Opens office in the morning and closes in the afternoon.</li><li>
Assist in maintaining patient logs for the following: Lab requests, CT scans and other treatment orders for the patients.</li><li>
Maintains prescription ledger when needed.</li><li>
Ensures the back office has good flow, keeps rooms full and assists with room turnover.</li><li>
Performs new patient thorough work-up (x-rays, vitals, new patient packet explanation).</li><li>
Adds medical history on all new patients and updates all established patients&rsquo; history in accurately.</li><li>
Performs accurate and complete room set-up for physician.</li><li>
Ensures that all patients medication is updated before physician visit.</li><li>
Handles set-up for in office surgical procedures.</li><li>
Ensures appropriate consent form is completed correctly avoiding the use of too many medical abbreviations within the consent forms.</li><li>
Scribe as assigned per physician office flow.</li><li>
Prepares for seeing patients the following day, including patient confirmation for next day visit.</li><li>
Completes patient medical record requests when necessary.</li><li>
Assists in the orientation and training of new personnel.</li><li>
Ensures proper hand off of responsibilities once their task is completed.</li><li>
Meets established attendance criteria and starts work promptly. Punctual and dependable for assigned/confirmed shifts.</li><li>

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions<ul><li>
Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently throughout the workday.</li><li>
Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies.</li><li>
Must be able to: push/pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.</li><li>
Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with ability to use fine hand manipulation skills for IV insertion and other procedures/functions.</li><li>
Maneuver foot pedals on carts or machines.</li><li>
Perform physical safety interventions such as patient restraint and verbal de-escalation, if needed.</li><li>
May be exposed to chemical and hazardous waste as well as blood and body fluids and communicable disease. Therefore, protective clothing and equipment must be worn as necessary.</li><li>
Must be able to respond quickly to changes in patient and/or unit conditions.</li><li>
Physical Abilities Testing may be required.</li><li>
Additional department specific physical requirements may be identified for unique responsibilities within the department by the nurse leader.</li></ul>
