Senior Estimator

Position Overview

The Senior Estimator is responsible for leading the estimating and preconstruction efforts for DSA-regulated and public works construction projects, including education, municipal, healthcare, and transportation facilities. This role develops accurate budgets, evaluates design documents, and manages the bid process to ensure projects are competitively priced and aligned with client objectives.

The Senior Estimator works closely with project executives, preconstruction teams, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to develop comprehensive cost estimates and support project planning from conceptual design through final bidding. The role plays a critical part in delivering well-coordinated project documents and cost strategies before construction begins.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the estimating and preconstruction process for DSA and public works construction projects.

• Prepare detailed conceptual, schematic, design development, and final construction estimates.

• Analyze drawings, specifications, and project documents to develop accurate quantity takeoffs and cost projections.

• Solicit, review, and level subcontractor bids to ensure full scope coverage and competitive pricing.

• Develop and maintain relationships with subcontractors and suppliers within the public works market.

• Collaborate with project management and field teams to review constructability and project logistics.

• Participate in design coordination meetings with architects, engineers, and consultants during preconstruction.

• Identify cost risks and provide value engineering solutions to align projects with owner budgets.

• Support project teams with schedule reviews, construction sequencing, and site logistics planning.

• Assist with the development of project budgets, GMP proposals, and bid submissions.

• Maintain accurate cost databases and historical pricing information for future estimates.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of estimating experience with a commercial general contractor.

• Strong experience estimating DSA-regulated or public works construction projects, including schools, municipal buildings, healthcare facilities, or infrastructure projects.

• Deep understanding of construction documents, specifications, and public works bidding requirements.

• Experience with prevailing wage projects and public sector procurement processes.

• Ability to scope all major trades including sitework, structural systems, building envelope, interiors, and MEP systems.

• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with project teams and design consultants.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working on K-12 school construction, higher education facilities, or municipal projects.

• Familiarity with DSA documentation requirements and regulatory processes.

• Proficiency with estimating software and takeoff tools such as Bluebeam, OST, or similar platforms.

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
