What you will do?


Summary:

The Senior Manager Purchasing is responsible for the strategic sourcing and procurement of engineering components including castings, forgings, sheet-metal parts, rubber, plastics, and related items while ensuring cost-effectiveness, quality, timely availability, and adherence to cost indexing requirements. The role encompasses supply chain consolidation, supplier evaluation and development, cost analysis, negotiation, and contract management. It also drives cost-saving initiatives, monitors global and local market trends, and ensures full compliance with procurement policies. The position requires strong collaboration with cross-functional teams to align purchasing activities with production, engineering, and overall business objectives.


Key Responsibilities

Costing:

  • Collect market data, analyze, and prepare “To-Be” cost for every tractor component
  • Analyze and gather market insights on cost components such as labor, material, foreign exchange fluctuations, utilities, and overheads
  • Standardize the cost of all tractor components with justification for any deviation from standard cost
  • Plan, study, and collect data to determine costs of products and business activities
  • Analyze collected data and calculate overhead, labor, and other production factor rates
  • Generate index cost sheets and validate costs of individual items
  • Evaluate price increase cases periodically
  • Build consensus with vendors on pricing
  • Analyze actual manufacturing costs of vendors, examine variances, and compare with budgeted costs
  • Oversee recording of cost information for controlling expenditures
  • Prepare cost estimates for new and proposed products
  • Provide management with reports comparing factors affecting prices and profitability
  • Prepare and maintain cost sheets
  • Monitor raw material and local value addition price fluctuations (e.g., HRC, CRC, alloy steel, casting) and prepare price cases

Purchasing:

  • Develop and implement strategic sourcing plans to optimize sheet metal procurement
  • Identify, evaluate, and negotiate with suppliers to ensure cost-effectiveness and quality
  • Collaborate with internal teams to integrate sheet metal components into manufacturing processes
  • Conduct market research to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for supply chain optimization
  • Implement cost-saving strategies and supplier diversification to reduce dependency on single-source vendors
  • Monitor supplier performance and ensure compliance with procurement policies and industry standards
  • Provide strategic procurement insights to senior management through data-driven reporting
  • Actively work with Inventory and Finance teams to develop and operate standard period-end closing schedules and desk procedures
  • Monitor and track offsite inventory balances and sales activity; collaborate with Innovation/Process Improvement teams to develop inventory tracking systems
  • Ensure timely price implementation to facilitate supplier coordination
  • Prepare comparative statements, letters of intent, and order approval documents for new developments
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as Quality Assurance, for feedback
  • Prepare manual purchases, engagement letters, purchase orders (POs), and approvals


Education:

Masters in Supply Chain/Engineering/ Accounts & finance or any other relevant or similar discipline.


Minimum Experience and Knowledge:

10-12 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably in manufacturing industry.
