Social Media Content Planner, Volunteer

About the Pet Cancer Foundation

At the Pet Cancer Foundation, we’re dedicated to transforming the lives of pets diagnosed with cancer by increasing their life expectancy and improving their quality of life. Estimates suggest that 12 million dogs and cats develop cancer each year, roughly six times the number of humans diagnosed annually in North America. We’re expanding our efforts to educate and empower pet owners, and we need passionate volunteers to craft compelling social media content that amplifies our message.

About the Role

As a Volunteer Social Media Content Planner, you’ll shape PCF’s online presence by developing engaging social media posts that highlight our work in pet cancer, wellness, and the human-animal bond. You’ll plan and maintain the marketing department’s posting schedule, while also organizing an organization-wide posting calendar, collaborating across departments to create content that resonates with pet lovers. Analyzing metrics to understand our audience and optimize impact is also an important part of this role.

Please leave a note with your application acknowledging your awareness of the volunteer nature of this position. We will only proceed with candidates who confirm their understanding.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Communications, HR, and other stakeholders to plan and schedule posts in a shared global posting calendar, ensuring cohesive messaging.
  • Monitor available analytics (e.g., reach, impressions, follower growth) to gain insights into audience behavior and refine social channel content strategies.
  • Work with marketing, communications, and our health content teams to ensure posts reflect PCF’s voice , style, tone, and content standards.

About You

You’re a creative, detail-oriented communicator with a passion for social media and animal welfare. Your ability to craft engaging content and analyze audience data makes you ideal for this role. You bring:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 2+ years of experience creating social media content, preferably for a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
  • Proven ability to write clear, engaging posts tailored to purpose-based organizations for their social media platforms.
  • Familiarity with social media analytics tools to track metrics like reach and engagement.
  • Strong collaboration skills to work across departments and align with organizational goals.
  • Excellent organizational skills to meet deadlines and contribute to a shared calendar.
  • Enthusiasm for animal welfare and PCF’s mission.
