For over 130 years, Reed Construction, a family-owned construction firm, has been at the forefront of the industry in Chicago, and we're looking for an experienced Superintendent to join our team. Project Superintendents are Reed Construction’s first line of defense on job sites. Responsibilities include oversight of all day-to-day site operations, including scheduling, coordination, and delegation of subcontractor work, quality control, and ensuring the safety of everyone on a project site.

The ideal candidate will work closely with our project management staff and assigned subcontractors to ensure that work is being completed on time, within budget and to the high degree of quality that Reed Construction is known for. The incumbent must demonstrate strong leadership capabilities and perform all duties and responsibilities listed below to the best of their ability.

What You'll Do

  • Provide strong leadership, maintaining effective working relationships with project staff to ensure a positive on-site morale.

  • Display a thorough understanding of project specifications, including site drawings, addenda, on-site procedures and potential code violations; bring any on-site issues to the attention of the project management staff in a timely manner.

  • Act as the primary point of contact for project management staff, subcontractors, building owners and managers, building engineers, architects and more.

  • Organize, delegate and oversee all on-site work being done by subcontractors and coordinate all on-site trade work; continuously provide feedback on assigned subcontractors and actively source new outlets for future projects.

  • Obtain any necessary permits or licenses, including Certificates of Insurance (COIs), project schedules and up-to-date safety protocol and equipment; Ensure prominent posting of weatherproofed, on-site signage outlining all required safety notices.

  • Ensure safety and security of each job site. Coordinate and host site walk-throughs, OSHA inspections and more; immediately prompt any corrective actions indicated by reports of these agencies.

  • Regularly attend seminars on a variety of safety-related topics.

  • Attend scheduled meetings with project management staff, clients, architects and other partners; engage in team collaboration to address any issues and provide comprehensive and transparent progress reports.

  • Utilize project management software to provide real-time data so that the project management staff can make timely and informed decisions. This includes use of Procore, On-Screen Takeoff, PM Web Solutions and more.

  • Maintain good relations and communication with everyone involved in a project, including the general public; conduct oneself in a courteous and professional manner at all times.

What You Bring:

  • Minimum 6 years of experience in a superintendent role preferred,

  • Prior experience working on large projects is required

  • Committed to producing high-quality work, striving for a “zero punch list” on every project

  • Ability to effectively lead an on-site project team and work toward multiple deadlines at once

  • Punctual and respectful of others’ time

  • Goal-oriented – ability to react quickly to changing circumstances and still achieve the desired end results

  • Proactively looks for potential job site issues and addresses any problems promptly and professionally

  • Organized with keen attention to detail; strong critical thinking skills

  • Strong understanding of project cost analysis

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to produce thorough documentation of each project

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook

  • Experience with project management software is a plus (Procore, On-Screen Takeoff, PM Web Solutions, etc.)

  • Calm and professional demeanor, even in high-pressure situations

  • Act as a coach and mentor to on-site staff, boost team morale

Working Conditions:
This is a full-time, salaried position. The work is typically performed in an on the project site with occasional office and travel requirements.   • Must be able to walk jobsites

  • Involves sitting, walking, stooping, bending, reaching ad lifting.

Salary Range: $135,000 - $150,000 annually
