responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and servicing of a company’s vehicle fleet. This role ensures that vehicles are roadworthy, safe, and operating efficiently while managing workshop staff, inventory, and budget.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate workshop activities including maintenance, repairs, and diagnostics.
- Plan and schedule routine preventive maintenance for all vehicles and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with safety, legal, and environmental regulations.
- Maintain accurate service records and vehicle maintenance history.
- Manage workshop inventory, spare parts procurement, and tools.
- Lead a team of mechanics, technicians, and support staff—assigning tasks and monitoring performance.
- Conduct inspections and authorize vehicle releases after repairs.
- Handle breakdowns and emergency repairs efficiently to minimize downtime.
- Ensure adherence to maintenance budgets and cost-effective operations.
- Liaise with transport operations teams to ensure availability and reliability of fleet.
- Train and develop workshop staff on new technologies, safety protocols, and best practices.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Technology, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in transport workshop management or heavy vehicle maintenance.
- Strong technical knowledge of diesel and petrol engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
- Proficiency in workshop management software and fleet tracking systems.
- Excellent leadership, planning, and communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and solve problems quickly.
- Knowledge of safety standards and regulatory requirements for commercial vehicles.
Preferred:
- Experience with fleet sizes above 20 vehicles.
- Certifications in vehicle diagnostics or maintenance management.
- Familiarity with ISO standards or preventive maintenance systems.
