Key Responsibilities
Operations Management
- Oversee daily operations for shipping, receiving, storage, and inventory control.
- Optimize workflow and space utilization to maximize efficiency.
- Schedule and manage staff to meet operational demands, including setting shifts, monitoring breaks, and approving time off.
- Coordinate logistics with transportation providers and internal departments (e.g., procurement, sales).
- Maintain physical condition of the warehouse by planning and implementing new design layouts; inspecting equipment; issuing work orders for repair and requisitions for replacement.
Inventory & Quality Control
- Implement and maintain accurate inventory control systems (e.g., using a Warehouse Management System or WMS).
- Monitor and manage inventory levels to prevent shortages or excesses.
- Ensure quality standards are met for all incoming and outgoing goods.
- Conduct regular audits of inventory and operations.
Team Leadership & Development
- Recruit, train, coach, and manage warehouse personnel.
- Set performance goals and conduct regular performance reviews.
- Foster a positive and safe working environment and motivate staff to achieve maximum productivity.
- Handle disciplinary actions and conflict resolution as needed.
Safety and Compliance
- Develop and enforce strict health and safety policies in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations (e.g., OSHA).
- Ensure all staff are properly trained in safe operation of equipment (e.g., forklifts, pallet jacks).
- Maintain security of the warehouse and inventory.
Budgeting and Reporting
- Manage the warehouse budget including labor, supplies, and equipment.
- Analyze and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as on-time shipping, inventory accuracy, and labor costs.
- Implement cost-reduction strategies while maintaining operational standards.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Experience & Education
- Proven work experience as a Warehouse Manager or similar supervisory role.
- A Bachelor’s degree in logistics, supply chain management, business administration, or a related field is often preferred, but extensive experience can sometimes substitute.
- Experience using Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and inventory control software.
