POSITION TITLE: Commercial & Contracts Executive (Development Role)

Department: Commercial & Contracts

Reporting to: Commercial Manager

Functional Coordination: CEO / Group CFO

Location: Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain

Purpose of the Role

To support and strengthen SFMGC’s commercial and contracting operations while developing into a future commercial leadership role. The Commercial Executive will work across tendering, project contracts, and financial planning to improve efficiency, governance, and profitability.

This role is designed for a technically strong, commercially curious professional, ideally with an engineering or construction background, who aspires to become a future Commercial Manager through hands-on learning and exposure to the company’s tendering, contracting, and commercial management functions.

Core Responsibilities

1. Commercial Coordination & Project Support

  • Assist in preparation, review, and administration of project contracts, variations, and change orders.
  • Ensure all project commercial activities comply with SFMGC’s contractual, financial, and operational frameworks.
  • Coordinate across Tender, Contracts, and Finance teams for pricing consistency and cost validation.
  • Prepare progress claims, interim payment applications, cost-to-complete and earned value reports.
  • Maintain project commercial registers including guarantees, retentions, insurances, and correspondence logs.
  • Track procurement orders, subcontractor performance, and commercial deliverables against contract milestones.

2. Tendering, Estimation & Bid Support

  • Review tender documents and highlight contractual, commercial, and financial risks.
  • Support cost estimation, bid summaries, and rate analyses in collaboration with the Tender Department.
  • Validate supplier and subcontractor quotations for compliance with technical and commercial terms.
  • Prepare comparative cost sheets, clarifications, and bid submission documentation.
  • Maintain tender tracking systems, historical cost databases, and post-bid evaluations for future benchmarking.

3. Cost Planning & Financial Insight

  • Work closely with the CFO to analyze project budgets, cost drivers, and financial forecasts.
  • Prepare project-level cost plans, cash flow projections, and profitability analyses.
  • Assist in verifying subcontractor payments, supplier invoices, and project cost reports.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities, financial risks, and productivity improvements.
  • Participate in monthly financial and commercial review meetings with management.

4. Contract Administration & Governance

  • Support drafting and administration of subcontracts, letters of intent, and contractual correspondences.
  • Assist the Commercial Manager in preparation of claims, variations, and extensions of time (EOT).
  • Ensure commercial records and communications are complete, traceable, and audit-ready.
  • Monitor contract compliance including insurance coverage, guarantees, and milestones.
  • Maintain familiarity with FIDIC and local GCC contractual practices.
  • Support ERP-based commercial workflows and data integrity within company systems.

5. Process Improvement & Learning

  • Identify and propose improvements to tendering, contracting, and cost-control processes.
  • Support implementation of digital tools, templates, and cost databases for improved commercial analysis.
  • Learn and apply fundamentals of contract law, risk management, and financial modeling under guidance.
  • Participate in training and professional development (e.g., FIDIC workshops, RICS modules).
  • Gain exposure to full contract lifecycle management and commercial negotiations.

6. Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensure alignment with Bahrain’s VAT, WHT, LMRA, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Support preparation of documentation required for external audits and internal compliance checks.
  • Uphold confidentiality and adherence to corporate governance and anti-corruption standards.
  • Assist in preparing management dashboards, KPI trackers, and reporting packs for executive review.

7. Stakeholder Engagement & Communication

  • Liaise with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers for commercial coordination.
  • Support management in client meetings, negotiations, and financial presentations.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally across departments to ensure alignment on commercial objectives.
  • Uphold SFMGC’s professional reputation through integrity, accuracy, and responsiveness.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related discipline.
  • 3–6 years of experience in commercial, contracting, or tendering roles within construction or engineering sectors.
  • Practical knowledge of FIDIC, contract law, tendering procedures, and cost control principles.
  • Strong analytical, technical, and financial reporting skills.
  • Proficient in MS Excel, MS Project, and ERP/tender management systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Eager to learn, proactive, and committed to advancing toward a commercial leadership position.

This is a developmental role designed to cultivate a future Commercial Manager.

Exceptional performance will lead to promotion as Senior Commercial Executive, and subsequently Commercial Manager, overseeing tenders, contracts, and project financial governance across SFMGC’s Bahrain and GCC operations
