Position Summary

The Lead Barista will assist the Coffee Director in ensuring day-to-day excellence and consistency across all aspects of the beverage program through tasting and adjusting recipes when necessary and other various methods of oversight. This position requires a positive attitude, the ability to take direction gracefully, and clear communication and collaboration with leadership. The ideal candidate will inspire passion for coffee through their own excitement as a knowledgeable coffee professional.

Key Responsibilities

  • Quality Control & Calibration: Perform daily tastings of drip coffee and espresso. Able to utilize trained palate to decisively adjust recipes or brew parameters as needed.
  • Training: Facilitate new barista training and provide ongoing mentorship.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor and manage stock with an acute understanding of weekly usage patterns.
  • Operational Support: Assist the Coffee Director with seasonal menu launches, store system improvements, and the execution of miscellaneous events or projects.
  • Store Culture: Influence the shop environment through a positive, productive attitude and a commitment to cleanliness and organization.
  • Exemplary Customer Service: Efficient and personable.
  • Logistics: Able to deliver items between locations when necessary (requires reliable transportation).

Qualifications

  • Experienced: A minimum of 2+ years in specialty coffee. Strong latte art skills are a plus!
  • Energetic and confident: Motivated and enthusiastic about customer service and crushing the rush.
  • Clean and organized: Exceptional station management skills, maintaining a clean work space even when not convenient.
  • Eager to teach others: A desire to learn about coffee and make knowledge accessible for all levels of staff.
  • An effective communicator: Observant to surroundings and able to effectively articulate information.
  • Flexible and open-minded.
  • Fastidious: A personal inclination towards quality and high standards in a fast paced environment
  • Patient.
  • Able to stand for long periods of time (6-8 hours), lift heavy objects (~50lb), go up and down stairs.
  • Full-time and weekend availability.
