Dakota State University (DSU) invites applications for a Librarian to join the Karl E. Mundt Library on DSU’s campus. The successful candidate will be a detail‑oriented professional who supports library services through technical services coordination, collection maintenance, student programming, and supervision of student employees.

Note: This position is INTERNAL only. Only current DSU employees are eligible to apply.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and oversee technical services operations, including Integrated Library System (ILS) functions, cataloging, and bibliographic record maintenance.
  • Develop, implement, and document effective technical services procedures.
  • Prepare, organize, and maintain physical library materials, including stack maintenance, shifting projects, and periodical management.
  • Catalog library materials, including DSU dissertations and theses, and oversee related binding and processing workflows.
  • Develop and implement student‑focused library programming and events that support library services.
  • Create marketing materials and utilize social media to promote library programs, services, and resources.
  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and supervise student employees to meet library service needs.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources and Federal Work Study to manage student employment approvals and payroll processes.
  • Provide troubleshooting and support across Technical Services and Public Services operations.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of library principles, practices, materials, and services.
  • Experience or working knowledge of library systems, including integrated library systems (ILS) and bibliographic utilities such as OCLC.
  • Experience maintaining physical collections, catalogs, and periodical records.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, and related applications).
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a campus community.
