Job Summary
The MEP Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) works for construction projects in the UAE. The role involves analyzing drawings, specifications, BOQs, and tender documents to determine material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs while ensuring compliance with UAE standards and project requirements.
Key ResponsibilitiesEstimation & Costing
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Fighting, ELV, and BMS systems
- Review tender documents, drawings, specifications, and scope of work
- Perform quantity take-offs using drawings and specifications
- Prepare and review BOQs, cost breakdowns, and pricing schedules
- Analyze vendor and subcontractor quotations and conduct price comparisons
Tendering & Commercial Support
- Participate in tender meetings and site visits
- Coordinate with suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams for pricing
- Identify value engineering opportunities and cost-saving alternatives
- Assist in bid submission preparation and clarifications
- Support post-tender negotiations and contract award processes
Coordination & Documentation
- Liaise with design, procurement, and project teams
- Maintain an updated cost database for materials, labor, and subcontractors
- Ensure estimates comply with UAE codes, standards, and market rates
- Prepare estimation reports and handover documents to project teams
Qualifications & ExperienceEducation
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering or related field
Experience
- 3–7 years of experience as an MEP Estimator in the UAE
- Strong knowledge of UAE construction market rates and suppliers
- Experience with residential, commercial, hospitality, or industrial projects
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of MEP systems and construction methodologies
- Proficiency in MS Excel, AutoCAD, and estimation software (e.g., PlanSwift, CostX, Candy – preferred)
- Excellent analytical and numerical skills
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
- Strong communication and negotiation skills
- Ability to work under tight deadlines
Knowledge Requirements
- UAE construction practices and standards (DEWA, ADDC, SEWA, Civil Defense, etc.)
- FIDIC contracts and tendering procedures (preferred)
- Local authority regulations and approval processes
