People & Culture Safety Generalist
C.G. Landscape is seeking a bilingual (Spanish/English) proactive and detail-oriented People & Culture Safety Generalist to support both safety initiatives and People & Culture operations. This role position is responsible for promoting a safe and compliant workplace, managing employee relations and P&C programs, and ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA and Cal/OSHA standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in safety coordination within outdoor or landscape operations, combined with experience in HR generalist functions such as workers’ compensation, performance management, and employee engagement.
This role will be instrumental in fostering a culture of safety, compliance, accountability, and employee well-being across all levels of the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Safety & Compliance
- Develop, implement, and oversee safety programs tailored to landscaping operations, ensuring compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and California state regulations.
- Conduct job hazard analyses (JHAs), site safety walks, and inspections to identify risks and recommend corrective actions.
- Provide training on safe work practices, proper use of machinery and equipment, PPE, hazardous material handling (e.g., pesticides, fertilizers), and environmental risks (e.g., heat stress, weather conditions).
- Lead or support accident and near-miss investigations, determine root causes, and implement corrective measures.
- Maintain accurate documentation of safety procedures, reports, and employee training certifications.
Workers’ Compensation & Insurance
- Manage workers’ compensation claims, coordinating with employees, managers, medical providers, and insurance carriers.
- Ensure accurate documentation and support return-to-work and modified-duty programs.
- Assist in managing company insurance policies (fleet, workers’ comp, liability, property, employer’s liability).
P&C Generalist Support
- Provide day-to-day People & Culture support in employee relations, conflict resolution, and policy enforcement.
- Maintain employee documentation including files, performance reviews, and disciplinary records.
- Serve as a backup for payroll administration and support compliance with certified payroll reporting and prevailing wage requirements.
- Provide guidance to employees regarding benefits, policies, and workplace issues.
- Backup to manage and track employee leaves of absence (FMLA, ADA, short-term disability, etc.), ensuring compliance and smooth return-to-work transitions.
- Assist in the development, communication, and enforcement of company policies and the employee handbook.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state labor laws, including OSHA, FMLA, ADA, EEO, and other applicable regulations.
- Prepare and submit required reporting (e.g., EEO, 5500).
Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Occupational Health & Safety, Business Administration, Environmental Science, or related field (preferred).
- OSHA 10/30 Train the Trainer Certification, or similar health & safety certifications strongly preferred.
Experience
- 3–5 years of combined experience in People & Culture and Safety coordination, ideally within landscaping, construction, or outdoor services.
- Proven ability to design, implement, and manage safety programs and P&C processes.
- Familiarity with Cal/OSHA, California labor laws, and federal HR/safety regulations.
- Experience with payroll systems (Inova/UKG preferred) and certified payroll reporting a plus.
Skills & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of landscaping operations, equipment, and safety practices.
- Excellent communication, training, and bilingual (Spanish/English) skills.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to build relationships, foster trust, and promote a culture of safety and accountability.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and HRIS systems.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Office-based with frequent field visits to landscaping job sites and other company locations (Santa Fe Springs, Corona, San Bernardino).
- Regular speaking, listening, and desk work; occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs.
- Exposure to outdoor environments, including varying weather conditions, during safety inspections and site visits.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time Exempt position, Monday to Friday, with regular office hours from 8 am to 5 pm.
· Salary: $60,000 - 68,640 based on experience, eligible for Quarterly Bonus after 90 days.
