ReStore Sales Associate / Cashier
Reports To: ReStore Supervisor
Position Summary
The ReStore Sales Associate is responsible for providing outstanding customer service while supporting the daily retail operations of the ReStore. This role serves as a key point of contact for customers, donors, and volunteers, ensuring a positive shopping and donation experience while supporting the mission of Habitat for Humanity of Steuben County.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide exceptional customer service to all customers, donors, volunteers, and staff.
- Greet customers and donors promptly and professionally, while assisting with questions or needs.
- Accurately sort merchandise and process customer purchases using the point-of-sale system, ensuring items are categorized properly to support sales tracking and donation reporting.
- Demonstrate interest in and knowledge of retail merchandise, including vintage items, antiques, home décor, and modern furniture.
- Process cash transactions accurately, including receiving payments and providing correct change.
- Balance and count the cash drawer at the end of each shift according to store procedures.
- Follow all organizational and store policies and procedures.
- Support overall store operations by assisting with tasks such as answering phones, assisting customers and donors, merchandising, pricing, cleaning, operating the register, and performing other duties as assigned.
- Contribute to a collaborative team environment in support of the mission and goals of Habitat for Humanity.
Position Requirements
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills. This role is customer-facing and often serves as the first point of contact and representative of the organization.
- Must be available Tuesday through Saturday 9-5. This part-time postion will range from 10 hours to 29 hours weekly.
- Ability to accurately handle cash, make change, open and close registers, and balance a cash drawer.
- Comfortable using a computer-based point-of-sale system, credit card machine, and answering incoming phone calls professionally.
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor when interacting with customers, donors, volunteers, and staff.
- Ability to perform physical activities throughout the shift, including standing, sitting, walking, bending, twisting, and reaching above and below shoulder level.
- Ability to remain on your feet for the majority of the shift.
- Ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds independently and lift items over 50 pounds with team assistance and appropriate equipment.
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience required.

Pay: From $16.00 per hour
