Reporting to the Donor Collections Manager and a dotted line to the NDC Operations and Technical Services Manager, position prepares special blood components and performs patient testing, as well as serve as a hospital services representative. Additionally, the performance of routine work related to the set up/tear down of mobile sites, the screening, collection and hematroning of blood and blood products during facility operations and mobiles as needed. This position has routine contact with hospital staff both by phone and in-person, frequent contact with the donor public, and blood clients requiring a high level of customer service.. This position rotates on call duties to provide afterhours consultation services and back up to hospital services on call staff.</p><p><b><br>

In this role, you will:</b></p><p>
Perform, interpret, and document in SafeTraceTX patient and routine donor serological testing. Prepare consultation reports.</p><p>
Select, perform, and interpret more complex antibody identification, using specified special techniques as required to resolve blood investigative patient problem under the guidance of Technical Services Manager.</p><p>
Communicate with internal and external customers regarding patient requests and samples.</p><p>
Prepare reagents. Prepare wet samples for educational purposes. Enter rare cell samples into Access Data Base.</p><p>
Record and place filled orders for antigen-negative red blood cells in SafeTraceTX.</p><p>
Initiate and complete incoming and outgoing hospital orders in the BECS</p><p>
Perform necessary quality control activities and documentation.Perform Driver I duties as well as acting Shift Coordinator duties when necessary.</p><p>
Assists with the loading, unloading, set-up and tear down of equipment at mobile donor and/or NDC sites.</p><p>
Performs pre-donation screening, venipuncture, and post venipuncture care of donors in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.</p><p>
Rotate on-call duties to provide after hours services for consultation services and serve as a backup on-call Driver II.</p><p>
Assists in orientating and training other staff members.</p><p>
Must comply with OSHA, FDA, AABB, cGMP and other regulatory standards and adhere to the Blood Center&rsquo;s standards and policies.</p><p>

For MLTs, ASCP certification or equivalent required at hire.</p></li><li><p>
For MLS with relevant experience, ASCP required upon hire; if new graduate, certification must be obtained within 6 months of employment. Failure to obtain certification within required time frame may lead to termination of employment.</p></li><li><p>
Valid Texas Driver's License (TDL) plus acceptable driving record.</p></li><li><p>
Must meet standards of The Blood Center&rsquo;s Vehicle Safety Program</p></li><li><p>
MLT (ASCP or equivalent) plus minimum 2 years of advanced and recent (within past 1-2 years) blood bank and immunohematology experience, preferred; or</p></li><li><p>

The APS Professional Education Program reimburses eligible staff for the cost of tuition and fees up to $10,500 per fiscal year. APS Investigator Specialists are mobile caseworkers. Mobile casework is not the same as working from home. APS Investigator Specialists spend the majority of their workday &ldquo;in the field&rdquo; conducting home visits to interview clients and alleged perpetrators. Although each workday may begin and end at home, APS Investigator Specialists are expected to be in the field making visits and engaging the community every day.
</p><p>This role requires frequent travel to homes and offices both within and outside your assigned region. Reliable transportation and a strong willingness to travel are essential, as you can expect to be on the road about 60% of the time. While much of your travel will be local, there will be instances&mdash;including last-minute situations&mdash;where you&rsquo;ll need to go outside your assigned counties, sometimes with little notice. Some overnight travel is also required, especially during initial training held outside your area and as cases demand. Flexibility is critical, as our mission to protect the most vulnerable means you must be ready to serve clients wherever and whenever you are needed.</p><p></p><p><br>
