About the role</b></h1>

Cognite's European Delivery organisation is growing in both scale and technical ambition. As Manager of Data Engineering, you will lead, develop, and retain a team of Data Engineers operating across some of the most complex industrial AI engagements in the market &mdash; ensuring they are technically strong, professionally developed, and set up to deliver at the standard our customers expect.</p>

This is not a pure people management role. You will carry a meaningful delivery commitment &mdash; approximately 50% billable capacity &mdash; working on customer projects alongside your team. Your credibility as a manager depends on being a practitioner: you need to understand the work at depth in order to coach it, assess it, and<br>

</p></li><li><p>Manage &amp; Mentor: Act as the direct people manager for a cohort of Emerging Talent AI Builders. Deliver regular 1:1s, performance reviews, career development planning, and compensation management.
</p></li><li><p>Bridge the Gap: Help AI natives pivot from 'building experimental side projects' to deploying production-grade, secure, and ethical enterprise software, showing them how to scale their boundary-pushing ideas responsibly.
</p></li><li><p>Consulting Coaching: Teach technical grads how to &quot;translate tech into business value.&quot; Coach them on active listening, stakeholder management, discovery sessions, presentation skills, and handling pushback from customers.

You will use insights gained from your cohort's rapid experimentation to feed back into the broader organization's upskilling initiatives.
</p></li><li><p>Project Matching &amp; Bench Management: Oversee the pipeline of customer work, strategically pairing Grads with projects that stretch their technical capabilities while balancing business needs.
</p></li><li><p>Development Milestones: Build, track, and optimize a 12-to-24-month competency matrix detailing when a Grad is expected to master specific technical tracks (e.g., Real-Time Infra) and consulting pillars.

</p></li><li><p>Leadership: 1+ years of experience managing technical teams, acting as a tech lead, or significantly mentoring early-career engineers/consultants.
</p></li><li><p>Technical Fluency: Proficient in at least one classic powerhouse language (Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java) and a solid understanding of modern web architectures (React, REST APIs, GraphQL). A passion for high quality code and best practices (OOP, SOLID, Git, etc.)
