The Utility Supervisor in road construction is responsible for coordinating, supervising, and protecting existing underground and above-ground utilities during road and infrastructure works. This role ensures that utilities such as water pipelines, sewer lines, stormwater drainage, electricity cables, telecom lines, and gas pipelines are properly identified, protected, relocated, or installed according to project requirements and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise utility investigation, excavation, and installation works during road construction projects.
  • Coordinate with utility authorities and service providers for approvals, inspections, and relocation works.
  • Identify and verify locations of existing underground utilities before excavation.
  • Ensure proper protection, diversion, or relocation of utilities such as water, drainage, electrical, telecom, and gas networks.
  • Monitor excavation activities to prevent damage to existing utility services.
  • Ensure compliance with project drawings, specifications, and safety regulations.
  • Supervise utility workers, operators, and subcontractors on site.
  • Coordinate with site engineers, surveyors, and project managers.
  • Maintain daily records of utility works progress and issues.
  • Ensure traffic safety and public safety during utility works in road areas.
  • Conduct site inspections and report conflicts between utilities and road structures.
  • Ensure proper backfilling, compaction, and restoration of road surfaces after utility work.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in road construction or infrastructure projects.
  • Experience working with underground utilities and utility relocation projects.

Required Skills

  • Knowledge of road construction and underground utility systems
  • Ability to read utility drawings and road construction plans
  • Strong site supervision and coordination skills
  • Knowledge of excavation safety and utility protection procedures
  • Good communication and reporting skills
