Eating Together: Food in Japanese America</i><i> </i>/ Little Tokyo Legacy Businesses: This exhibition will look at Japanese American&rsquo;s long history with food, in California especially. Possible media components will dive into prewar agriculture, fishing, food during wartime incarceration, and their connections to the farms, restaurants, and traditions of today. We will also document longtime Little Tokyo restaurants and examine the impact of gentrification.</li><li><i>
Ireicho</i> National Tour: The Intern may have the opportunity to attend the Tule Lake Pilgrimage to film contemporary footage of where the camp existed and collect site-specific stories from those stamping the <i>Ireicho</i> book of names that memorializes everyone of Japanese descent incarcerated during WWII.</li></ul></li><li>

<div><p>The Getty Marrow Audience Engagement Intern will work closely with the Vice President of Exhibitions and Art Director and focus on supporting JANM&rsquo;s new permanent exhibition, <i>In the Future We Call Now: Realities of Racism, Dreams of Democracy</i><i>. </i>This reimagined exhibition promises to provide contemporary context for the journey of Japanese Americans, spanning immigration, WWII incarceration, through to contemporary issues. By combining cutting-edge scholarship with immersive exhibits and programming, this exhibition will engage and inspire audiences in a way that resonates with today&rsquo;s societal challenges. The Getty Marrow Audience Engagement Intern will play an integral role within the Exhibitions Unit as the Museum prepares to reopen its Pavilion. Immersed in the dynamic process of bringing the institution&rsquo;s new permanent exhibition to life, the Intern will collaborate closely with multiple departments to ensure a seamless and engaging visitor experience.</p><div><p><b><br>

</div><div><div><ul><li>Working closely with the VP of Exhibitions and Art Director, they will develop innovative tools and resources to deepen audience connection with the exhibition. They will take the responsibility in creating an orientation for volunteers and visitors, and in operationalizing the exhibition&rsquo;s interactive and media-based components. This includes training staff to operate these features effectively, ensuring that the visitor experience is both meaningful and smooth.</li><li>
Throughout the Internship, the Getty Marrow Audience Engagement Intern will strengthen their research and writing skills while learning the fundamentals of designing and producing interactive elements. They will gain hands-on experience with the software programs used in exhibition development and will learn how to create presentations and mock-ups to communicate ideas and train stakeholders. The goal of the Getty Marrow Audience Engagement Internship is to give the Intern the opportunity to enhance the audience experience and provide opportunities for audiences to connect with the Japanese American experience.</li><li>

Ability to adjust and provide appropriate action when unanticipated need arises. Knowledge of Japanese American history and culture a plus.</p></div>

The Audience Engagement Intern will have their own desk in the Exhibitions office. They will have a computer with access to the JANM network, internet, a scanner, photocopier, and printer. They will also have access to a clean space to produce physical artworks and comps of ideas as they would be seen within the exhibition.</p><p></p><p><br>
