The Patient Care Assistant II is responsible for supporting the RN with clinical tasks, including but not limited to blood glucose monitoring, completing EKGs, applying simple dressings, using aseptic technique and responding to medical emergency situations utilizing Heartsaver CPR and AED skills. In addition, the PCA II is responsible for responding to the needs of patients and family members and taking an active role in the efficient operation of the unit. <ul><li>COMPETENCY</li><li>Complies with established practice standards, policies, procedures, protocols, guidelines, and regulations, (for example: DPH, JCAHO, Boston fire codes, OSHA).</li><li>Maintains and demonstrates compliance with hospital, nursing and unit specific competencies and care standards. Patient care includes:</li><li>Assisting with admission, discharge, and transfer of patients. Licenses:<br>
<ul><li>Required: Graduate of an accredited American Medical Association-approved Physician Assistant training program.</li><li>Required: Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants within one year of hire. Must maintain this certification by completing required 100 hours of Continuing Medical Education credits every two years. In addition, PA must demonstrate continued competence by passing a re-certification exam every six years.</li></ul>

<ul><li>Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population in the ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural setting.
</li><li>Performs complete histories and physical examinations.
</li><li>Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.
</li><li>Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings.
</li><li>Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
</li><li>Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summaries.
