Hours:
Part-time, 2 days a week, 7 a.m.- 7 p.m.
The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.
Cardiac Surgical IMCU Overview:
This 24-bed cardiac surgical/procedural IMCU provides care to pre and post cardiac surgery patients to include: bypass surgery, cardiac valve repairs/replacements, thoracic surgery/lung diagnostics, and other cardiac based procedures and treatments such as ablations, left atrial appendages, ICDs, and permanent pacemakers.<ul><li> Provides a high level of care to patients with cardiac arrhythmias, heart failure, and chest pain.</li><li>Nurses handle 3-4 patients on this unit based on acuity level.</li></ul>
Education:<ul><li>Associate&rsquo;s Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required)</li><li>Bachelor of Science Nursing- BSN or MSN (Preferred)</li></ul>
Certification/Licensure:<ul><li>Virginia RN License Virginia or Compact/Multi-State Eligible.</li><li>All Direct Care RN's required to have BLS within 90 days of hire.</li><li>Critical Care/IMCU ACLS within 1 year of hire</li></ul>

This 42-bed unit specializes in the care of Adult Surgical Patients. Registered Nurses are assigned to PODs to assist patients recovering from surgeries: Urology, General Surgery, ENT, Plastic Surgery, GYN Surgery, Surgical Oncology, and Trauma Overflow. While working in this unit you will care for patients that have renal disease, diabetes, COPD, and heart failure for a well-rounded nursing experience. This is a telemetry-monitored unit. The average patient stay is 3-4 days. This unit also has 6 beds that are for Epilepsy monitoring and is the Living Kidney Donor Transplant Unit. Join our amazing team!

Cardiovascular Surgical ICU Unit Description: 
<ul><li>20 Bed cardiac surgical ICU</li><li>Nurses handle 1-2 patients on this unit based on acuity level.</li><li>Nurses provide service to any patients that have undergone open heart surgeries such as CABG, Valve repair or replacement, aneurysm repair, TAVR, ablations, Heart Transplantation, and Mechanical Circulatory Support devices including the Total Artificial Heart and Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), and various lung surgeries.</li><li>Nurses manage critically ill patients that require intensive hemodynamic monitoring, mechanical ventilation, multiple drug infusions, IABP therapy and CRRT.</li></ul></div>
The Sentara Heart Hospital, a 112-bed care facility, is #2 for Cardiology services and Heart Surgery in the State of Virginia and ranks #24 in the nation for best heart programs.<div>

Our Transition to Practice program features a mix of classroom teaching methodologies and a preceptor-based unit orientation. You will engage in 8 sessions that include live simulations, case studies, and problem-based learning. These sessions cover essential topics such as critical care patient assessment and documentation, respiratory and cardiac care, vasoactive medications, hemodynamics and invasive monitoring, neurological care, post-operative and procedural care, GI/renal systems, ACLS mega code, sedation, analgesia, neuromuscular blockade, and effective communication with providers and families.

Hours: 7am-7pm 36 hours a week<h2 class="jobSectionHeader">
Essential Duties and Responsibilities</h2><ul><li>
Perform ultrasound-guided peripheral IV catheter insertion for patients with difficult vascular access.</li><li>
Assess and recommend appropriate vascular access devices based on patient needs and therapy requirements.</li><li>
Utilize aseptic technique and infection prevention practices during all procedures.</li><li>
Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot vascular access devices.</li><li>
Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure optimal patient care.</li><li>
Provide education and competency training related to vascular access and ultrasound-guided IV insertion.</li><li>
Document procedures, assessments, and patient outcomes accurately and timely.</li><li>
Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to vascular access and infusion therapy.</li><li>
Ensure compliance with organizational policies, professional standards, and regulatory requirements.</li></ul><h2 class="jobSectionHeader">
Job Requirements</h2><h3 class="jobSectionHeader">
Education</h3><ul><li>
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.</li><li>
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state.</li><li>
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.</li></ul><h3 class="jobSectionHeader">
Certifications</h3><ul><li>
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.</li><li>
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.</li></ul><h3 class="jobSectionHeader">
 Experience</h3><ul><li>
Minimum of 2 years of recent acute care nursing experience required.</li><li>
Experience with peripheral IV insertion</li><li>
Previous experience using ultrasound technology for vascular access strongly preferred.</li><li>

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities</h3><ul><li>
Demonstrated proficiency in ultrasound-guided peripheral intravenous (USGPIV) insertion.</li><li>
Knowledge of vascular anatomy, infection prevention, and infusion therapy standards.</li><li>
Ability to assess patients with difficult vascular access and determine appropriate access devices.</li><li>
Skilled in insertion, maintenance, and troubleshooting of peripheral IVs, midlines, and PICC lines as applicable.</li><li>
Ability to recognize and manage complications related to vascular access.</li><li>
Strong critical thinking, assessment, and clinical decision-making skills.</li><li>
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.</li><li>
Ability to educate patients, families, and healthcare staff regarding vascular access procedures and care.</li><li>

Overview:
The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.
Department/Position Overview:
Sentara Leigh Hospital Intensive Care Unit, AACN Gold Beacon Award recipient, is comprised of 20 licensed critical care beds and has an average daily census of 18 patients. Staffing ratios vary and can be 1:1 to 1:3 with 1:2 being the usual assignment.
The ICU RN&rsquo;s are required to have a wide array of knowledge, skill and ability to competently and safely provide critical care to our patients. Frequent ongoing education, new skill acquisition and skill validation are provided and supported by an experienced ICU CNS for new and experienced ICU nurses.
This unit welcomes experienced nurses moving into this specialty. The 11-week Transition to Practice program focuses on the orientation transition experience with intentional knowledge support and skill acquisition for practice in IMC areas. 
ICU staff are supported by an interdisciplinary care team which in part includes unit based respiratory, physical, speech and occupational therapists. Interpreter, nutrition, palliative, chaplaincy and ethical services are readily available as well. Our ICU has onsite and eICU pulmonary critical care intensivists and their team of physician extenders 24/7. Physician lead, nurse driven interdisciplinary rounds are held daily for continuity of care and to address nursing&rsquo;s concerns or questions. These rounds are made educational and even fun at times by our very engaged intensivist MD&rsquo;s.
