<div>The University of Iowa Health Care is seeking Patient Care Technicians for the Acute Medicine Unit (4/5 South) within the Medical Surgical Services (MSS) Division. Our Medical-Surgical Services Division is one of the largest in the hospital, with more than 260 of our 811 beds assigned to medical-surgical care settings.
The Adult Acute Internal Medicine Units (4/5 South) are both 13-bed, general medicine inpatient units that serve patients with multiple diagnoses and co-morbidities, providing general care to adult and geriatric patient populations. You will work with multiple different medical services that may include but not limited to: family practice, internal medicine, cardiology, nephrology, gastroenterology, wound care, infectious disease and oncology. We offer opportunities for education, quality improvement, and first-hand collaboration with medical teams. 4/5 South is a fast-paced, challenging and team-oriented working environment. We use a multidisciplinary approach to patient care that is patient centered and encourages teamwork between nursing staff, physicians, therapy teams, social work, care coordination, and pharmacists.
We are looking seeking Patient Care Techs to perform specific tasks to assist members of the Nursing team in providing patient care under the direct supervision of Registered Nurses.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:<ul><li>
Independently obtain and record vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure</li><li>
Carries out medical asepsis when performing skills and tasks including but not limited to phlebotomy, peripheral IV removal, &amp; Foley catheter removal and cares for patients who are medically isolated</li><li>
Performs simple diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as enemas, preoperative preparation of the skin, dressing changes, collecting specimens, applying binders, braces, etc.</li><li>
Performs special duties as taught and directed by the nurse in charge including but not limited to phlebotomy, ECG lead/12 lead placement, and brace/pin site cares</li><li>
Assists with patient admission, transfers, and discharges</li><li>
Directly provides for patients' personal hygiene and comfort</li><li>
Turns, positions and ambulates patients</li><li>
Transports patients, equipment, specimens, and supplies</li><li>
Feeds patients, serves drinking water and nourishments, and records patients' intake</li><li>
 Assists patients with bedpans and urinals and records output</li><li>
Participates in nursing care conferences; reports pertinent patient information and incidents to nurse in charge</li><li>
Provides for patient comfort measures through social interactions</li><li>
Shares responsibility for preparation, proper use and care of equipment and supplies, and for neatness and cleanliness of unit</li><li>
May assemble and maintain equipment and supplies in preparation for various diagnostic or treatment procedures performed by physicians or nurse</li><li>
Cleans areas per designated guidelines and standards demonstrating proper use of approved disinfectants, cleaning products, and care of the housekeeping equipment</li><li>
Stock and supply patient rooms and nursing units</li></ul>
 Percent of Time: 60% - 24 hours per week

Repurpose content for different internal audiences and channels.</li><li>
Work as part of the OSC internal communications team, in close communication with internal communications specialists from other divisions and units, as well as the OSC team as needed.</li><li>
Collaborate with the senior director of internal communication to envision the most strategic ways to disseminate content.</li></ul>
Strategic Planning<ul><li>
Envision, draft, and execute strategic communication and marketing plans.</li><li>
Educate the university community on OSC&rsquo;s mission, build and protect the university&rsquo;s brand, and increase understanding and trust with internal audiences.</li><li>
Assist with and serve on appropriate communication advisory groups.</li><li>
Prepare regular analytics reports on internal communication efforts.</li></ul>
