The Conflict Attorney is responsible for conflicts clearance review and analysis for firm-wide legal hires and new business, working directly with the Department Director and Managers, as well as with attorneys and the firm&rsquo;s Ethics Advisory Committee, to identify and resolve potential ethics and business conflict issues. Analyzes the more complex conflict reports. Assist Director and Managers in training and overseeing the work of the Conflict Analysts and Specialists. This position requires strong knowledge of the rules of professional responsibility and sound analysis of potential conflict issues. The attorneys and Ethics Advisory Committee rely upon the Conflicts Attorney&rsquo;s information in making decisions about whether or not to accept new legal hires, clients and matters.</div><div></div><div>
What You Will Do:</div><ul><li><div>
Create and analyze complex conflict reports and exercise independent judgment to identify potential conflict of interest issues with legal hires, new business and marketing initiatives. Conduct research to gather information and/or clarification on potential issues. Take the initiative to analyze and resolve conflicts independently.</div></li><li><div>
Prepare communications to attorneys, clearly identifying all potential issues found in conflict report. Assist attorneys in resolving conflict issues. Work directly with attorneys, the Department Director and Managers, and the Ethics Advisory Committee, as necessary, to assist and facilitate conflict resolution.</div></li><li><div>
Provide guidance to Conflicts staff relative to conflict research and analysis and corporate family tree research with the goal of ensuring accuracy and consistency in preparation and analysis of conflict reports. Assist in development and implementation of training programs for Conflict Analysts and Specialists.</div></li><li><div>
Assist attorneys and secretaries in understanding the firm&rsquo;s conflicts and business intake policies and procedures.</div></li><li><div>
Assist attorneys to draft engagement and waiver letters.</div></li><li><div>
Research appropriate jurisdictional conflict and/or ethical rules and/or opinions to assist in determining specific conflict resolution strategies.</div></li><li><div>

This innovative Unit within the Civil Rights Division protects the civil rights of people who interact with local police departments and other law enforcement agencies.</p><p>
</p><p>Primary Duties: The Assistant Attorney General will work closely with the PAU Director to pursue the Unit&rsquo;s mission to investigate and redress patterns or practices of racially biased or otherwise unlawful policing, provide support to law enforcement agencies regarding civil rights compliance, and protect the civil rights of incarcerated people. <p>The Office of the Massachusetts Attorney General is looking for an experienced and highly motivated attorney to serve as an Assistant Attorney General in the Police Accountability Unit (PAU). This innovative Unit within the Civil Rights Division protects the civil rights of people who interact with local police departments and other law enforcement agencies.<br>
</p><p></p><p>Primary Duties : The Assistant Attorney General will work closely with the PAU Director to pursue the Unit&rsquo;s mission to investigate and redress patterns or practices of racially biased or otherwise unlawful policing, provide support to law enforcement agencies regarding civil rights compliance, and protect the civil rights of incarcerated people. Responsibilities include:
</p><ul><li>Screening and developing new matters.
</li><li>Conducting comprehensive investigations involving interviews, data analysis, and retaining and working with experts.
</li><li>Drafting written recommendations including legal analyses.
</li><li>Litigating cases in state and federal court related to PAU&rsquo;s enforcement authority, including negotiating, monitoring, and enforcing settlement agreements.
</li><li>Working collaboratively with other state agencies, including the Police Officer Standards &amp; Training Commission (&ldquo;POST&rdquo;) and the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security (&ldquo;EOPSS&rdquo;).
</li><li>Working collaboratively with law enforcement agencies, including by providing technical assistance, legal guidance, and training on compliance with civil rights laws.
</li><li>Developing legislative and policy initiatives.
</li><li>Reviewing and drafting amicus briefs.
</li>Engaging with community stakeholders on matters related to policing practices and criminal justice reform, including through speaking engagements and attendance at community meetings.<br>

</li></ul><p></p><p>Position Requirements :
</p><ul><li>Must be a member of the Massachusetts bar or eligible for admission in short order.
</li><li>At least three (3) years of full-time legal experience, preferably including complex civil litigation and/or criminal justice experience, such as litigation or advocacy involving law enforcement practices or experience as a prosecutor or criminal defense attorney.
</li><li>Experience working directly with or on behalf of members of the public, especially historically marginalized communities.
</li><li>Demonstrated commitment to ensuring the trust and confidence of communities in law enforcement agencies and ensuring accountability when law enforcement officers commit misconduct.
</li><li>Outstanding research, writing, and advocacy skills.
</li><li>Demonstrated ability to work effectively and respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds, including other attorneys and staff.
</li><li>Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
</li>Fluency in a second language, especially Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese), Vietnamese, or Haitian Creole is a plus.<br>

 The base salary range for this position is $178,600.00 to $268,000.00. The hiring range will vary based on factors such as experience, skills, location and market conditions. Additionally, employees may be eligible for annual and long-term incentives as part of their overall compensation package.
