Elementary School Chinese Lead Teacher Job Description 
The Chinese elementary school classroom lead teacher is one of the primary stakeholders who influence the lives of children at Global Citizens PCS. Chinese lead teachers will foster a student-centered learning environment that respects the culture and identity of each and every child so they can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. In early childhood, our children learn all content areas in the target language for approximately 90% of the school day, and they learn their early literacy and math skills in English for approximately 10% of the school day. In elementary school (Kindergarten through 5th grade), we use a 50/50 model, where our children receive standards-based instruction (aligned to the Common Core State Standards) in reading, writing, math, and science in the target language for 50% of the time and in English for 50% of the time (each day). The Chinese lead teacher will teach all content areas in the target language and will serve as the instructional lead and model for the target language (Mandarin Chinese). The Chinese lead teacher will work collaboratively with support teachers and The Georgetown University Program in Educational Transformation (EDTR) Residents to positively impact student development by creating a warm and inviting learning environment; building relationships with students and families; creatively designing and implementing effective lessons within a free and liberating classroom environment; analyzing and interpreting data; collaborating professionally with colleagues; and, participating in the larger school-wide community. The Chinese lead teachers will be coached and supported by the Chinese Instructional Coordinator. The Chinese lead teachers, with support from the Chinese Instructional Coordinator, will work collaboratively with all grade-level and leadership team members to fully understand and respond to the needs of students and families, create and implement plans according to the mission, vision, and pillars of Global Citizens Public Charter School while remaining focused on the implementation of high-quality Chinese language instruction. 
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 Responsibilities
 
 
 
 
 Specific Responsibilities Will Include, But Not Be Limited To
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Develop/design and implement unit plans and assessments that are aligned both with OSSE standards and with the school-wide curricular framework at MAPCS
 </li>
 <li>
 Design in-person instruction that is enriched (developing higher-order thinking skills) and personalized (reflecting learning levels and interests of individual students)
 </li>
 <li>
 Create physical classroom environments conducive to collaborative and individual learning
 </li>
 <li>
 Identify and address individual students' social, emotional, and behavioral learning needs and barriers
 </li>
 <li>
 Monitor, input, and analyze student academic and assessment data to inform personalized, enriched instruction by the teacher, follow-up tutoring by tutor(s), and changes in digital instruction
 </li>
 <li>
 Communicate with students and keep them informed of their progress
 </li>
 <li>
 Deliver instruction for CTE/Industry recognized certifications/credentials
 </li>
 <li>
 Maintain regular communication with families
 </li>
 <li>
 Collaborate with other teachers and staff members to analyze data, group students, teach, and assign/implement interventions
 </li>
 <li>
 Manage administrative assignments effectively and with a high level of professionalism and integrity
 </li>
 <li>
 Participate in internal and external professional development opportunities
 </li>
 <li>
 TRAVEL REQUIRED for multi-day/overnight work-based learning trips in the US and/or internationally
 </li>
 <li>
 Other duties as assigned

 Qualifications
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Bachelor&rsquo;s degree preferred in the subject area/field being taught, i.e. hospitality management
 </li>
 <li>
 Hospitality industry knowledge and experience required
 </li>
 <li>
 Career and Technical Education/vocational teaching experience, preferably in one or more of the following: hospitality management, and industry certifications instruction
 </li>
 <li>
 Eligibility for teaching certification or credential
 </li>
 <li>
 Teaching experience with youth at the secondary level in an urban setting
 </li>
 <li>
 Familiarity with research-based instructional methods and curriculum development
 </li>
 <li>
 Ability to work collaboratively to support student academic and personal development
 </li>
 <li>
 Knowledge of student-centered instruction, performance-based assessments, and youth development principles
 </li>
 <li>
 Ability to work with Special Education Students
 </li>
 <li>
 Experience working with inner-city youth
 </li>
 <li>
 Ability to multitask and perform duties with flexibility
 </li>
 <li>
 Experience/ability fostering and cultivating relationships with local industry professionals

Compensation for instructional roles follows our established pay bands, which can be accessed from our career page.
