In addition to providing direct and indirect patient care, the hematology oncology PA serves as a role model for professional advanced practice and participates in the professional development of the team through teaching, committee involvement or quality and safety initiatives. The hematology oncology PA will provide thorough, compassionate, culturally sensitive clinical care and should demonstrate operational flexibility and strong leadership, problem-solving and communication skills in order to work effectively with other members of the team.</p><ul><li>Performs comprehensive histories and physical examinations.</li><li>Completes high quality and timely documentation.</li><li>Participates in scheduled encounters, maintains capacity for urgent care for the evaluation and management of complex oncologic symptoms or treatment toxicities and improves access for newly diagnosed hematology oncology patients.</li><li>Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.</li><li>Ensues appropriate diagnostic procedures occur in a timely manner through careful coordination with other services such as radiology, facilitating various clinic appointments, communicating with patients regarding test results, and providing coverage for the team</li><li>Performs (oversees/assures completion of) specialized procedures particular to the select medical oncology population mutually agreed upon with the supervising physician.</li><li>Follows and manages patients (in collaboration with MD) enhancing continuity of care across the trajectory of illness.</li><li>Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings across the trajectory of illness.</li><li>Facilitates patient movement through the system and efficient use of resources through interdepartmental collaboration.</li><li>Facilitates and co-manages communications between physicians, patients, family, and staff.</li><li>Orders medications and writes prescriptions, inclusive of standard of care antineoplastics and oncologic investigational new drugs according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.</li><li>Participates in research efforts to advance knowledge and to promote research-based practice.</li><li>Appreciates the complex medical environments of cancer patients including, but not limited to, those with advanced malignancy or organ dysfunction and the risk for complex drug interactions.</li><li>Maintains and updates clinical knowledge and skills based on current health care practice/research. EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:<br>
<ul><li>Minimum 2 years&rsquo; current PA experience caring for an Oncology focused patient population required. Experience in breast, GI and thoracic malignancies is strongly preferred. Experience in an ambulatory practice is strongly preferred.</li><li>Minimum 1 year experience signing antineoplastic orders strongly preferred.</li><li>Proficiency with Epic and EMRs strongly preferred.</li><li>EPIC Inbasket management, telemedicine experience strongly preferred.</li><li>Familiarity with clinical trials strongly preferred.</li></ul></div><p><br>

The MGB Cancer Institute is seeking a full-time Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join the Infusion Unit and ambulatory practices at Mass General Hospital in Boston, MA. The Infusion Unit APP Specialist will work in a recently developed role embedded within our adult infusion unit to serve as an infusion unit first responder, promote infusion services access and efficiency, provide oncology urgent care/symptom management and provide generalist coverage within our ambulatory hematologic malignancies programs for anticipated leaves and absences.

Join a large and supportive ambulatory oncology and infusion service line Advanced Practice Team in a role that specializes in the care of patients with a variety of medical oncology diagnoses. With an interdisciplinary team approach, this provider will promote a collaborative relationship between providers, professional nurses, research personnel and administrative staff, to provide safe, quality care in compliance with clinical trial protocols across the care continuum.

APP Responsibilities:

<ul><li>While on the adult infusion unit, the APP oversees the care of patients with hematologic and oncologic disorders, serves as a first responder for acute reactions and medical emergencies, partners with primary disease center providers to care for complex oncology patients awaiting hospital admission and collaborates with the Cancer Institute weekend first responder team to provide access for urgent evaluation and symptom management during off-hours.
</li><li>The NP/PA is also responsible for collaborative care of the patient with benign hematological disorders receiving care in the adult infusion unit.
</li><li>While in the cancer institute ambulatory practices the APP Specialist is responsible for the care of oncology patients in the outpatient setting, specializing in either solid tumor malignancies or hematologic malignancies in partnership with primary disease center APPs, physicians, practices nurses and administrative support team members.
</li><li>Flexibility in scheduling as this position may require weekend, holiday and evening coverage as well as variable weekday assignments.

Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), located in Boston, MA currently has an opportunity for an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our cutting-edge Inpatient Oncology team, caring for inpatients with solid tumors or hematologic malignancies.

Join a dynamic inpatient oncology team. Work within one of our two subspecialty groups with APPs that specialize in either 1) solid tumor, caring for an oncology patient population who are admitted for medical complications, new diagnoses, and treatment-related side effects, or 2) hematologic malignancies, caring for patients receiving bone marrow transplant and cellular therapies. This role offers the perfect blend of autonomy and collaboration. You&rsquo;ll work closely with oncologists and an interdisciplinary team to deliver cutting-edge care on either our solid tumor or hematologic malignancy service. Our APPs have the opportunity to be on the forefront of cancer care, collaborating with research teams to care for patients receiving first-in-human therapies as well as standard of care.

Job Summary</b></p>
Full-time (40 hrs) 3-13-hour shifts plus one hour of education every week. Shifts are 6am-7pm and 6pm-7am with one hour overlap for sign out and to sort out pending patient care issues.<br>

Ellison 14 ICU patient populations are adult complex surgical patients including burns along with acutely ill medical patients (i.e. both SICU and MICU-type patients). While Ellison 14 is the official &lsquo;Burn ICU&rsquo; at MGH and has a storied history of caring for critically ill burn patients, currently, thermal burns constitute a minority of our patients (&lt;10%).

Ellison 14 ICU has a &lsquo;closed ICU&rsquo; model. All patients on the unit are cared for by the same team. Our APPs are the primary ICU care providers, supported by admitting surgical teams and consultants. Our multispecialty care team model, in-line with other ICUs at MGB, is based on responding clinicians (APPs and residents) supervised by 24/7 in-house attending ICU staff physicians and supported by critical care fellows.

The job includes, but is not limited to critical care interventions, intensive care monitoring, diagnosing and prescribing treatments, therapeutics, and medications, coordinating referrals and discharging patients from the ICU. We emphasize and expect responsible, collaborative decision-making from our APPs, within their full scope of supervised practice. We encourage procedural excellence.

In collaboration with a multidisciplinary care team, they would be responsible for establishing, implementing, and evaluating the ICU course of treatment and the coordination and communication of the treatment plan. The APP will have a key role in patient and family teaching, while promoting competent, compassionate nursing care for patients and relatives. They will serve as a role model for professional nursing practice.

All new hires go through a detailed on-boarding experience and several weeks-long orientation at MGH ICUs tailored to their background and prior experience.<br>

Essential Functions</p><ul><li>Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to patients in the cardiac surgery department.</li><li>Assists surgeons in the operating room, performing technical clinical procedures Performs complete histories and physical examinations.</li><li>Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.</li><li>Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings.</li><li>Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.</li><li>Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summaries.</li><li>Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population.</li></ul><p></p><p>
