Under the direct supervision of a licensed Pharmacist, performs work of a pharmacy technician, in accordance with Article 137 of the Education Law, specifically Article137-A, which details the tasks permitted for a licensed pharmacy technician and an unlicensed pharmacy technician. Ensures patient safety, optimal utilization of resources, service delivery and compliance with NYC Health + Hospitals, health care setting, and all other relevant regulatory policies and standards of care to improve outcomes and patient experience.</p><p><b>
Examples of Tasks and Responsibilities</b>:</p><p>
1. Validates patient identity and screens prescriptions for completeness, formulary/restriction and payment status, prior to processing.</p><p>
2. Receives written or electronically transmitted prescriptions, types prescription labels and affixes labels on containers.</p><p>
3. Accurately keys and retrieves prescription data from a computer-generated file for review by a pharmacist.

<div>Duane Reade is seeking a dynamic, flexible and motivated team player to join the Pharmacy department as a Pharmacy Technician. This position will be responsible for verification of prescription information within Duane Reade Pharmacies.
<br>
<br>
<b>Essential Duties and Primary Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:</b>
<ul><li>Verifies that the prescription information is complete and accurate.</li>
<li>Retrieves, counts, pours, weighs, measures and sometimes mixes medication.</li>
<li>Prepares the prescription labels, selects the type of container and affixes the prescription and other labels to the container.</li>
<li>Prices and files the prescription and insures that it is checked by a Pharmacist before it is given to the patient.</li>
<li>May establish and maintain patient profiles, prepare insurance claim forms and stocks and takes inventory of prescription medications.</li>
<li>Refers any questions regarding prescriptions, drug information or health matters to a Pharmacist.</li>
<li>Performs any other duties as assigned by the Pharmacist.</li>
<li>Scan merchandise on the register.</li>
<li>Stock merchandise on the shelves.</li>

 Job Description

 The Certified Pharmacy Technician prepares, under Mount Sinai Pharmacy guidelines, pharmaceutical orders for patient care areas, maintains adequate stock levels, reviews medical areas for expired drugs, maintains refrigeration temperature logs, and provides general assistance to pharmacists.

  <li>
   Fills medication orders accurately.
  </li>
  <li>
   Retrieves and delivers medication in a timely fashion.
  </li>
  <li>
   Maintains adequate stock levels in the pharmacy and does not over-stock.
  </li>
  <li>
   Prepares/ checks Urgent Use Stock orders for patient care areas accurately and does not over-stock.
  </li>
  <li>
   Reviews medication areas for expired drugs in a timely fashion.
  </li>
  <li>
   Maintains medication refrigerator temperature logs in pharmacy areas and nursing units (as assigned).
  </li>
  <li>
   Determines the intravenous antibiotic needs of each of the satellite units at the beginning of the shift.
  </li>
  <li>
   Prepares Laminar Flow Hood for usage.
  </li>
  <li>
   Operates the Baxa pump.
  </li>
  <li>
   Reconstitutes antibiotic piggyback bottles with the proper diluents using aseptic technique.
  </li>
  <li>
   Defrosts frozen antibiotic intravenous mini-bags.
  </li>
  <li>
   Prepares antibiotic concentrate and aseptically adds to diluents mini-bags.
  </li>
  <li>
   Rotates all antibiotic products to maintain the maximum expiration and properly disposes of all expired products.
  </li>
  <li>
   Fills orders for satellites not involved with centralized IV program.
  </li>
  <li>
   Maintains the area in a neat and hygienic manner.
  </li>
  <li>
   Properly disposes of all intravenous needles and tubing and equipment.
  </li>
  <li>
   Assists in maintaining all required records.
  </li>
  <li>
   Provides general assistance to the pharmacist.
  </li>
  <li>
   Maintains inventory of all needed intravenous supplies.
  </li>
  <li>
   Prepares all pre-manufactured I.V.s with patient label to be checked by pharmacist.
  </li>
  <li>
   Delivery of patient IVs to nursing units.
  </li>
  <li>
   Performs all related duties as required.

   HS/GED; Graduate of an approved pharmacy technician training program, OR an advanced degree, i.e. a Pharmacy Degree from another country OR relevant experience.

   1-2 years relevant experience as a hospital pharmacy technician preferred: IV experience preferred

 The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $39.2524 - $39.2524 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need.
