Under the supervision of an experienced and licensed attorney, the LCE intern will be exposed to and participate in various legal functions related to law practice in an elder law setting for low-income older persons. The intern will report to the Assistant Director of Federal Relations, who serves as the daily point of contact, providing hands-on mentorship, assigning projects, and ensuring the intern has rich exposure to the workings of Congress. All necessary instruction materials and housing arrangements will be finalized and provided well in advance of the intern's arrival in D.C.</p>

The Managing Attorney&rsquo;s Office (MAO) supports and assists the firm&rsquo;s practice groups &ndash; primarily the Litigation Group &ndash; on court-related matters. The MAO&rsquo;s primary responsibilities include monitoring litigation relevant to the firm&rsquo;s practice groups and clientele, filing and serving all litigation papers, monitoring pending court cases, tracking litigation deadlines, researching and retrieving court documents and public records, providing guidance on court rules and procedures, and assisting with federal court admissions. Together with the Managing Attorney and Managing Clerk, the Assistant Managing Clerk role, an entry-level position, assists with the day-to-day operations in the MAO. The hours for the position are 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., with overtime as needed and flexibility to work with shifting scheduling requirements.</div>
Responsibilities:
<ul><li>Serving and filing litigation papers electronically and by hand</li><li>
Docketing court documents and tracking deadlines for the firm&rsquo;s active court cases</li><li>
Monitoring cases of interest, both in court and through various databases including PACER and various state court databases</li><li>
Retrieving documents from local federal and state courts and government offices
</li><li>Obtaining legalizations for documents for use in foreign countries</li><li>
Interacting with court personnel and attorneys</li><li>
Additional responsibilities may be assigned as experience is gained in the position</li></ul>
Qualifications:
<ul><li>Bachelor&rsquo;s Degree with a strong academic record required.
</li><li>Strong academic background and willing to work for at least 2 years</li><li>
Excellent computer skills</li><li>
Ability to work independently and also be a team player</li><li>
Discrete in handling confidential information</li><li>
Must be flexible to work overtime as needed</li><li>
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills</li><li>
Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail</li><li>
Previous legal internship a plus.</li></ul><div>
The estimated base salary range for this position is $50,000 to $54,000 at the time of posting. The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of job-related factors, including skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities, geographic location, and performance. This role is non-exempt, meaning it is overtime pay eligible.</div><div></div><div><br>
