The Position</b></p>
<p>
The Litigation Summer Law Clerk position is an excellent opportunity for someone who is ambitious, focused and organized to gain experience supporting a fast-paced team in a national law firm. The Law Clerk will assist our lawyers in all facets of state and federal civil litigation, including legal research, preparation of first drafts of pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, and reports, and involvement in strategy sessions.</p>

The position requires 40 hours per week, in-person, at our Seattle office.</p>

Responsibilities</b></p>
<ul>
<li>Conduct in-depth legal and factual research to support active cases.</li>
<li>Analyze legal and factual issues to provide critical insights for case strategies.</li>
<li>Review documents for relevancy and legal issues, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.</li>
<li>Assist attorneys with discovery processes, trial preparation, and trial-related tasks, gaining hands-on experience in litigation.</li>
<li>Collaborate with attorneys on drafting pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, and case strategy discussions.</li>

<p><b>Qualifications</b></p>

<li>Bachelor&rsquo;s degree required. Currently enrolled as a law student for the 2025-2026 academic year at an accredited law school.</li>
<li>Demonstrated experience or a strong interest in litigation and trial practice. Familiarity with litigation processes is a plus.</li>
<li>Highly organized, goal-oriented, and efficient, with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.</li>
<li>Strong legal research, writing, and oral communication skills with meticulous attention to detail.</li>

The selected candidate will work closely with senior AGO investigators, as well as state agencies and state, local and federal law enforcement partners to investigate and prosecute financial crimes. The Seattle Police Department is seeking former law enforcement officers with at least ten years of commissioned law enforcement experience to work in the Investigations Bureau as Investigation Support Analysts. These positions will complete in-custody rush-file cases for court filings and respond to requests for more information from a prosecutors&rsquo; office. Cases would be prioritized based on the severity of the crime and the likelihood of the subject being held at first appearance.<br>

In addition, these positions will undertake analytical work to assist investigative units and patrol with thorough, precise, and timely information directly related to the furtherance of their criminal investigations to include, tracking and analyzing crime trends, providing statistical information, running criminal histories, requesting 911 recordings, releasing and/or re-releasing evidence housed in evidence.com to the prosecutor, all as necessary to perform the duties above or under the direction of a detective to assist with the completion of an investigation.</p></div>

<ul><li>Performs specific analysis for an investigation at the direction of a sworn detective utilizing specific department software.</li><li>Complete in-custody rush file cases for court filings.</li><li>Respond to requests for more information from a prosecutor&rsquo;s office.</li><li>Pulling criminal histories, requesting 911 recordings, releasing and/or re-releasing evidence housed in evidence.com to the prosecutor.</li><li>Accessing digital imprints related to persons and/or events that may contribute to broader investigations as well as identifying persons attempting to commit crimes using aliases, fraudulent identities, and usernames.</li><li>Tracking citywide criminal trends and patterns.</li><li>Monitoring criminal activity, performing analysis, and preparing reports utilizing crime data.</li><li>Providing threat assessments to the department based on internet and social media trends.</li><li>Producing hot sheets and reports associated with crime patterns.</li><li>Preparing weekly crime numbers reports and specialized maps.</li><li>Providing statistical information.</li><li>Other duties as assigned by sworn detectives and/or the chain of command.</li></ul></div></div>

Requires a bachelor&rsquo;s degree and four years of experience performing paralegal duties; or a certification from a nationally accredited paralegal training institution and five years related experience (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class). Must have demonstrated ability to lead projects and/or people.<br>

The full salary range for this position is $43.12 to $50.33 per hour.<br>
New employees begin at Step 1 of the pay progression, which is $43.12 hourly. Current City employees&rsquo; starting rate of pay will be based on Personnel Rules regarding promotions. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) regular position with full benefits. This is a Civil Service position eligible for overtime.<br>
