Position Overview:
The Assistant Librarian embodies the tenets set forth in the mission statement of the Seattle Symphony. The hallmark of this position is to assist in providing musically relevant services and resources to conductors, players and administrative staff. The Assistant Librarian will assist the Co-Principal Librarians in preparing materials to the highest artistic standard utilizing all available resources and tools of communication, collegiality, and technology. The ideal candidate will possess the qualifications stated in this job description and/or the willingness and aptitude to learn them while filling the job functions.
Essential Job Functions:
Responsible for assisting in all aspects of music preparation in coordination with the Co-Principal Librarians during rehearsal, concerts and regular business hours including the following:<ul><li>Assist with bowings and part preparation:</li></ul>
 o Participate in marking of parts including bowings, cuts, errata, rehearsal systems, and other editing.
 o Participate in the circulation and rotation among string principals.
 o Maintain bowing circulation information.<ul><li>When on concert duty, place music folders on stage accurately and quickly in coordination with stage crew.</li><li>Assist in cataloguing and maintaining the Seattle Symphony Permanent Collection.</li><li>Ability/willing to learn to repair parts and scores.</li><li>Assist in the timely placement of music in orchestra folders as required by CBA.</li><li>Ability to provide your own transportation to off-site venues and transport music if necessary.</li></ul>
Qualifications:<ul><li>A degree in music preferred as well as experience with a professional orchestra or ensemble.</li><li>Prior orchestral performance experience is preferred.</li><li>Knowledge of musically relevant aspects of symphonic music.</li><li>Experience marking bowings and understanding of string markings.</li><li>Neat handwriting and hand manuscript is essential.</li><li>Ability to read music, knowledge of clefs, transpositions, etc.</li><li>Knowledge of/willingness to learn basic music theory, history, and relevant terminology.</li><li>Knowledge of/willingness to learn Sibelius/Dorico (or other engraving software), Photoshop or Adobe Acrobat</li><li>Experience using digital copy machines or aptitude to learn.</li><li>Must be highly organized, demonstrate initiative, possess strong problem-resolution skills, and be able to participate successfully in a fast-paced, team-oriented, constantly changing environment.</li><li>Communicate effectively with individuals, take direction as necessary, and calmly and efficiently handle situations ranging from routine to emergency.</li><li>Possess excellent communication, organizational and time management skills, and the ability to prioritize and multi-task as necessary.</li><li>Have the ability to maintain any confidentiality necessary to the job.</li></ul>
Other Requirements:<ul><li>A music librarian skills test is part of the interviewing process</li><li>Compliance with rules governing members of the CBA and applicable sections of the staff handbook. We are recruiting a full-time physician assistant (PA) at the faculty rank of Teaching Associate to join our spine surgery service at the University of Washington Medical Center &ndash; Northwest Hospital and Montlake Campuses. The successful candidate is expected to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team and have effective interpersonal skills, leadership skills, and clinical expertise. Our physician assistants are responsible for providing comprehensive orthopaedic care to patients in the surgical, inpatient and outpatient settings. Teaching associates hold annual appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30) and may be reappointed to subsequent annual terms. Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. This position has a flexible start date in the spring or summer of 2026.
Salary:
 
The base salary range for this position will be: $10,000 - $14,850 per month ($120,000-178,200 annually) commensurate with qualifications and years of experience as a physician assistant, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations.

Qualifications
 
1. Current and valid Washington State Physician Assistant License.
2. Graduate Degree from an accredited PA program. Nationally certified PA-C with DEA.
3. Proven excellence working in an interdisciplinary collaborative team environment.
